Instructional Technology Lab

The mission of the Instructional Technology Lab, or ITL, is to help UIC faculty and staff make effective use of computer, Web-based and multimedia technologies to enhance teaching and learning in traditional on-campus courses, as well as in distance education.

The ITL runs a number of instructional systems, like Blackboard CourseInfo, and serves as a test bed for new technology applications in computing and education.
The ITL is designed to help, both, novice and seasoned computer users: from creating your first class home page or PowerPoint presentation, to delivering digital video content over the network or authoring an interactive multimedia-rich learning module.

Our goal is to make learning technologies as user-friendly as possible, and to help use these technologies to create engaging high-quality educational materials with sound pedagogy behind them.

Help is available on a number of areas, including:

  • Creating Web pages
  • Putting class materials online
  • Using the Blackboard CourseInfo course management system
  • Making computer-driven presentations
  • Streaming PowerPoint audio presentations
  • Using Microsoft Office, Macromedia and Adobe software, Windows and Macintosh platforms
  • Using Adobe Acrobat (PDF) portable documents
  • Incorporating online assessment (quizzes and surveys) in your classes
  • Creating accessible educational materials
  • Scanning pictures, photographs slides, transparencies, negatives and printed text
  • Offering individual and group training on technology topics
  • Graphic and Web design

The Instructional Technology Lab is located at 1940 West Taylor Street, in room 181 BGRC, on the west campus. We can be reached by telephone at (312) 996-9824 and via email at itl@uic.edu.

The ITL is available by appointment, and during ITL Open Hours, without an appointment. Open Hours are held on Mondays and Thursdays, from 1 to 5pm.

To make an appointment, click on making reservations on the ITL home page.

ACCC is in the process of opening an ITL-East, on the 4th floor of CCC, in the back of the 401 CCC computer lab. Check the ITL home page for details.

We can also meet faculty members at their offices for consultations which do not require using any of the ITL special equipment and authoring software.
