U-Print > What are the Benefits?

The benefits are many, here are some of the highlights:

  • The system will make it easier for you to find your print job output because the job will not be printed until you request it.
  • Privacy is not compromised. You pick up your output as soon as it prints.
Once your job is submitted for printing, you can print it from any other ACCC lab.
  • Valuable resources (paper or toner) as well as wear-and-tear on the printer is drastically reduced.

U-Print > How Does it Work?

The U-Print system will give you much more control over when and where your jobs print. The steps, explained in detail below, are as follows:

  • To print the job, walk to a U-Print station located next to each printer in the labs.
  • Insert your UIC i-card in the card reader next to the U-Print station. The card reader front panel will display the amount of money that you currently have on the i-card.
  • The ACCC U-Print station will display a login prompt. Enter your netid and password.
  • After successful login, a screen appears, listing all jobs that you have submitted for printing. The amount of money left on your UIC i-card displays in the lower-left corner of the screen.
    1)
You now have the option of printing or deleting the jobs listed in the queue.
    2) Clicking on each print job will show you (in the lower left hand corner of the screen) the number of pages for this job and its cost.
    3) Select a job and click on Print to print it or Delete to delete the job without printing.
    4) If the cost of the job you are trying to print is equal to or less than the amount of money on your i-card, you will be able to print the job.
    5) If the cost of the job exceeds the credit on your i-card, you will need to add money to your i-card before you can print the job.
    6) Jobs selected for printing will start to print. You can print or delete other print jobs in the queue or,
    7) Click on Exit when you are done.
    8) Pick up your output from the printer.
    9) Once the job is printed, it is removed from the system and cannot be retrieved.
    10) Jobs left in the print queue for more than 12 hours will be deleted.
    11) There is a time-out of 20 seconds at the print station, after which you will be logged off and your card will be ejected from the card reader.

Note: The banner page containing information about your print job is your receipt. If there are any problems with your print job and you choose to report them, you must have your receipt.

Banner pages are not charged against your printing account.

U-Print > Quotas & Charges

Among the main goals of U-Print is to reduce waste. To support your need to print and address the waste problem, we provide a limited amount of printing at no cost to you.

At the beginning of each semester, your U-print balance is set to a credit of $15.00.

The semester is defined as the period between the week before classes start until the week before the next semester starts.

Most print jobs will be charged against your U-print balance at a rate of $0.08/page.

Pages printed duplex will be charged as a single page.

This rate applies to pages printed on black and white printers.

Other printers, when added to the U-Print system, may have a different rate schedule. The rates will be posted on each printer.

Any balance remaining on your U-print account will not carry over from semester to semester.

The reset value for the credit will be $15.00 regardless. Money you have added to your i-card for printing will, however, remain on your card.

How can I Check my U-Print Balance?

You can check your balance and printing history for this semester on this Web page:
