Changing to Your ISP's SMTP Server

Changing Your Windows Email Program's Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

   
 
     
Eudora, older
 
  1. Open Eudora.
  2. On the Eudora menu bar, click Special, then select Configuration.
  3. Type the SMTP server in the SMTP: box.
  4. Click OK to save the settings.
 
     
Eudora 3.x and 4.x
 
  1. Open Eudora.
  2. On the Eudora menu bar, click Tools, then select Options.
  3. Click the Sending Mail category.
  4. Type the SMTP server in the SMTP Server: box.
  5. Click OK to save the settings.
 
     
Netscape 2.x and 3.x
 
  1. Open Netscape.
  2. On the Netscape menu bar, click Options, then select Mail and News Preferences.
  3. Select the Servers tab.
  4. Type the SMTP server in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
  5. Click OK to save the settings.
 
     
Netscape 4.x
 
  1. Open Netscape.
  2. On the Netscape menu bar, click Edit, then select Preferences.
  3. From the Category list, click the plus sign next to Mail & Groups, then select Mail Server from the list.
  4. Type the SMTP server in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
  5. Click OK to save the settings.
 
     
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x
 
  1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  2. On the IE menu bar, select Go, then select Read Mail.
  3. When the email window opens, select Mail from the menu bar, then select Options.
  4. On the Servers tab, type the SMTP server in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
  5. Click OK, then click Close.
 
     
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x with Outlook Express
 
  1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  2. On the IE menu bar, select Go, then select Mail.
  3. On the Outlook Express menu bar, select Tools, then Accounts.
  4. On the Mail tab, highlight your email account, then click the Properties button.>
  5. On the Servers tab, type the SMTP server in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
  6. Click OK, then click Close.
 
     
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x with Outlook Express
 
  1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer .
  2. On the IE menu bar, select Tools, then select Mail and News, then select Read Mail.
  3. On the Outlook Express menu bar, select Tools, then Accounts.
  4. On the Mail tab, highlight your email account, then click the Properties button.
  5. On the Servers tab, type the SMTP server name in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
  6. Click OK, then click Close.
 
     
Microsoft Outlook 97
 
  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 97.
  2. On the Outlook menu bar, select Tools, then select Services.
  3. On the Services tab, highlight Internet Mail, then click the Properties button.
  4. On the General tab, click the Advanced Options... button.
  5. Type the SMTP server name in the Forward all outbound mail to the following mail server: box.
  6. Click OK on all windows until you're back in Microsoft Outlook.
 
     
Microsoft Outlook 2000
 
  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2000.
  2. On the Outlook menu bar, select Tools, then select Accounts.
  3. On the Mail tab, highlight your email account, then click the Properties button.
  4. On the Servers tab, type the SMTP server name in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP): box.
  5. Click OK and then Close to return to Outlook.
 
     
WebMail
 

WebMail runs on a machine on the UIC campus; it is not affected by this change.
