    FaCT computer support

Once you receive and install your FaCT computer, ACCC will provide support while you remain the owner of the machine. The computer hardware has a 4-year warranty from the manufacturer. ACCC provides free technical assistance and service calls for the original hardware and software (including from Server Services). If you require assistance with third-party hardware or software that is not part of the original machine configuration, service calls are available for $50 per hour, with a $50 minimum fee.

To schedule a service call, please send an email to fact@uic.edu.

Frequently asked questions about owning a FaCT computer are found here.

Receiving a new FaCT computer again (when selected)

We are generally in a 4-year replacement cycle, only a fraction of those eligible will get a new machine in any given year. The process is like this:

    Each year:
    1. We select the faculty that have qualified for the FaCT program.
    2. We place them in a batch with the lowest end machines at that time.
    3. The list of names from that batch will be made available on the FaCT website.
    4. Faculty will be notified by email to choose a computer from a link that is provided.
    5. We will order the machines and have them delivered to the faculty member's office.

This process will repeat itself every year.

Once you are chosen to receive a new FaCT computer, you will receive an email prompting you to select a new machine. If you do not select a new machine for 2 consecutive batches, ACCC will not prompt you to select a new machine anymore. Please see the above information on machine selection.

Discarding or giving your old FaCT computer away

If you do not plan to keep your old FaCT computer, we encourage you to recycle your older machine by giving it to someone else in your department (or another department). If the machine cannot be recycled, it will need to be taken out of inventory and surplused. Please contact your department's business manager for information on how to do this.

Note: The recipient of your donated (used) FaCT computer is not covered by the free-of-charge FaCT service calls. A fee of $50-per-hour service call rate will apply.
