UICAL - file server fixed - database backup and check

Apr 26 2006 - Network Appliance replaced several NVRAM cards and the file server is up again. We are now running a backup of the UICalendar database. When that is finished, we'll run a database consistency check/fix tool to insure against any database corruption. At this point we're hoping to have UICalendar up and running by 1pm.

UICAL - up again

Apr 26 2006 - The Network Appliance technician replaced several NVRAM cards by 11:30 am, but later we found that the technician had not removed a protective label which was preventing the NVRAM batteries from re-charging. So, we had to stop the file server and re-open it, resulting in an additional hour of delay.

After the file server was up and running again, we had to run the Oracle Calendar Database Consistency Check+Fix tool to insure against database corrupion. This process took another hour. UICalendar was finally running at 1:15 pm Wednesday.

UICAL down due to file server failure

Apr 26 2006 - UICalendar is down again this morning due to the failure of the usually ultra-reliable Network Appliance Filer (file server).

Network Appliance has dispatched an engineer and some parts and we hope they will begin working on repairs 10:00am.

At this point we feel it is not worth going to a backup of the UICalendar database made last night, due to the fact that some events may be lost. We may reconsider this decision if the filer is not quicky repaired.

UICAL problem 3:30pm

Apr 25 2006 - We're experiencing problems with the UICalendar file server and are checking into it.

Attention Graduating Students

Apr 19 2006 - To answer two questions we get asked a lot by graduating students.
Q: When does my UIC account expire?
A: If you are graduating this semester, you will recieve email in Sept (when we notice you haven't registered), explaining that you are in a grace period, and the account will be terminated in Jan, 2007. Basically, you get 1 semester grace period, where summer counts an a part of spring semester.
Q: How can I obtain a copy of my UIC email?
A: The UIC Email Quota Tools on the ACCC Email home page allows you to download each of your mailfolders (INBOX, sent-mail, etc.) as a single file, which can read by Eudora, or most other email clients.
