Seminar on UIC SSN Policy

Oct 22 2002 - You are invited to attend a UIC campus-wide meeting about the implementation of the University of Illinois policy on Social Security Numbers.

Under the terms of the U of I SSN policy, by Fall, 2002, any point-of-service operation asking for an SSN must display an approved disclosure statement as mandated by federal law. By the year 2005, the University ID Number (UIN) will replace the Social Security Number (SSN) as the primary identifier in university-wide and departmental computer systems.

For more information and to register for the seminar, go to http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/ssntransition/register.html

Crime Alert

Oct 17 2002 - UIC Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a UIC student Wednesday, Oct. 16, during the noon hour. The offender approached the student on Harrison Street across from the Student Residence and Commons as the student was waiting for a bus. He demanded money and threatened the student and lifted up his coat to reveal a small handgun. The student stalled the offender by engaging him in conversation and escaped by boarding a westbound bus.

The offender is described as a male black about 25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, of thin build, with a dark complexion and short hair. He was wearing wire-rimmed glasses, a navy-blue jacket with a front zipper, black pants and black shoes.

UIC Police advise students, faculty and staff to stay alert for suspicious persons. Get a top-to-bottom description and call the UIC Police at 6-4357 without delay. Remember there is safety in numbers; avoid walking alone if possible.
