tigger crash and email problems Friday evening 2/13
|
| |
Feb 14 2004
- Tigger crashed at about 6pm Friday 2/13. It appears that the "email inbox" filesystem had become corrupted. We rebooted the system and ran a filesystem repair tool, which recovered almost all of the email inboxes. However, some inboxes that were being updated at the moment of failure may have been damaged.
If your inbox is on tigger and you believe you are missing some mail that had been there prior to 6pm Friday, please send a detailed problem report to systems@uic.edu. We may be able to recover some messages from backups made late Thursday and early Friday.

Crime Alert
|

Feb 09 2004
- Students were the victims of two separate armed robberies this weekend in the 800 block of South Leavitt.
Just after 4 a.m. Saturday, two offenders in a car approached a student and asked for directions. One exited the vehicle and brandished a screwdriver, demanded money, and punched the victim, who was not seriously injured, in the face. Both offenders escaped in the vehicle with a small amount of cash. They were described as male blacks; one was 20-25 years old, 5 foot 10 or 11 inches tall, with brown eyes and dark complexion, wearing a dark blue knit cap and dark tan canvas jacket.
In the second incident, just before 3 a.m. Sunday, two students were confronted by two offenders as they were entering their building. One offender displayed a handgun and demanded money and belongings. The two offenders escaped with a small amount of cash and a cell phone in a waiting car with two other presumed accomplices. The first offender was described as a male black 22-27 years old, 6 feet 1 inch, 180-190 pounds wearing a black skull cap, dark hooded sweatshirt and dark puffy jacket. The other offender was a male black, 15-19 years old and 5 feet 11 inches tall.
Anyone with information is asked to call Chicago Police Area 4 detectives at (312) 746-8253 or the UIC Police at (312) 996-2830.
UIC Police remind members of the community of some safety tips:
--be aware of your surroundings
--try to travel in groups after dark
--use well-lit walkways
--on campus, look for the location of the nearest emergency call box (there are more than 700 across campus)
--the emergency number for UIC Police is 996-HELP (4357).
