| Mailserv - intermittent response | ||
Aug 20 2004 - Parts of mailserv are responding intermittently. We're looking into causes, and will fix asap. |
| Mailserv - intermittent response II | ||
Aug 20 2004 - We have an intermittent problem with an internal network link between BGRC and SEL. This is causing trouble for half of our mailserv users. We're still working on it. |
| Mailserv - intermittent response III | ||
Aug 20 2004 - We replaced a broken network switch, so mailserv is fully back in action. Of course, now the mailserv servers are a bit overwhelmed by the flood of incoming mail, but that will settle down shortly. No mail was lost, any incoming mail would have been queued on the mail relay servers, so things will be back to normal very soon. |

| New ADSM clients for Win XP SP2, Mac OSX | ||
Aug 13 2004 - The ADSM client download page now has version 5.2.3 of the Tivoli Storage Manager (ADSM) client programs for Mac OSX, AIX, and Windows XP/2000/2003. This is the latest version. The Mac and AIX versions are mostly bug fixes, but version 5.2.3 for Windows contains new support for Windows XP SP1 and SP2. It also has a very nice new feature: Open File Backup. For more information about this, see the README file where you download your client program. Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) for WindowsPlease note, versions of the Tivoli Storage Manager for Windows client prior to version 5.2.2 did not work with Windows XP SP1 or SP2. Admittedly we did not check all possible combinations, but if you use Windows XP, you can be safe by upgrading to version 5.2.3. Check what version you currently have before you upgrade by opening the Backup/Archive GUI client program and clicking Help --> About. You can upgrade to Tivoli Storage Manager version 5.2.3 before or after you upgrade to Windows XP SP2. You do not need to uninstall your previous version of TSM before you install the new one.Firewall users (which now includes ALL users of Windows XP SP2 by default) should make sure you have the TSM Scheduler in "Polling Mode", not "Prompted Mode". Determine and reset this by starting up the Backup/Archive GUI program and clicking Edit --> Preferences --> Scheduler and make sure the Polling radio button is selected. The Web Client may also be troublesome for Firewall users; if that is the case use the regular GUI Client instead.
All ADSM client programs, including these latest versions, can be
downloaded from

| New New machines and Scali downtime for argo | ||
Aug 11 2004 - The ACCC has purchased 32 more machines for the argo system. The machines are Sun V60 SunFires with dual 3.0GHz Xeon processors. Twelve of the new machines, named argo12-4 to argo10-1, are in production and available to run jobs. However, the original sixteen machines (called argo4-4 to argo1-1) will be taken out of service, temporarily, beginning Monday. As a result, Scali MPI will not be available. Instead, users of Scali will have to use vanilla MPI. On Monday, any job(s) using the old nodes will be killed prior to shutdown. I apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions, please do not reply to this email. Instead, send you question to systems@uic.edu.
