Recent Blackboard problems

Sep 29 2004 - From Sunday evening until Wednesday morning, Blackboard suffered various temporary access problems. Under high load, the system was becoming unresponsive and looped. We think we have identified and corrected the source of the problem, and since Wednesday around noon the application has again been performing well. The ACCC apologizes for the inconvenience users experienced.

Power Outage Update

Sep 24 2004 - Updated Information on Power Outage
Updated Friday, Sept. 24, 12:15 p.m.

This is an update on the power outage situation affecting east campus.

Power has been lost in Grant, Douglas, and Lincoln Halls and in Lecture Centers A through F. Note: Burnham Hall is unaffected. All classes in buildings without power have been canceled for Friday afternoon.

All events scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25 for Grant, Douglas, and Lincoln Halls and Lecture Centers A through F are canceled.

We anticipate class schedules as normal for Monday, Sept. 27.

Faculty will need to make individual arrangements to reschedule their classes and exams as necessary.

On Friday morning, the UIC generator was taken off-line for repairs. A rented back-up generator failed and caught on fire, which was quickly extinguished with no injuries. Repairs on the UIC generator have been completed, but it will take some hours to bring that generator back on-line.

Any further updates will be sent by urgent mass e-mail, posted at www.uic.edu, and recorded on the information hotline, (312) 413-9696.

Thank you for your patience. We are mindful of the disruption this situation has caused and are doing all we can to minimize further inconvenience.

Sep 15 2004 - This is an update on the power outage on the east side of the UIC campus. Lecture Centers C, D and F are expected to return to normal operations effective the morning of Thursday, Sept. 16. All rooms in Lecture Centers C, D and F should be available for their regularly scheduled classes beginning Thursday morning.

Lecture Centers A, B and E will remain unavailable for the rest of this week. The campus will issue an updated announcement via mass e-mail and the home page of the Web site on Friday regarding the status and location of classes in Lecture Centers A, B and E. Information also is available by calling (312) 413-9696.

Please remember to check the Web site or your e-mail or to call the information line to determine the location of Monday classes in Lecture Centers A, B and E. All other classes will be held in their usual locations according to normal schedules.

Power Outage Update

Sep 15 2004 - This is an update on the power outage caused by a water main break on the east side of the UIC campus early Tuesday morning.

The campus expects that all buildings will be restored to normal operations by Wednesday morning, except for Lecture Centers A-F. There will be no classes in the Lecture Centers on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Repairs to and evaluation of the electrical system that provides power to the Lecture Centers will continue throughout the night and on Wednesday. The extent of the damage to the Lecture Center's electrical system and whether power can be restored to at least some of the Centers for Thursday and Friday classes should be known by Wednesday night.

To decrease the amount of time the Centers are unavailable, the campus is importing temporary power sources and expects these to be in place by Monday. We also are exploring alternate classroom sites in case portions of the Lecture Centers are unavailable for a longer period of time.

Please continue to check the home page of the UIC Web site or call the special information line at (312) 413-9696 for updates on the status of the Lecture Centers. We regret the inconvenience to the campus community and are working as fast as possible to restore normal operations.

ADSM running again

Sep 15 2004 - Power was restored to the SEL building at 4:30PM Tuesday, so the ADSM Network Backup service is now running again. Tuesday's backups should occur on their regular schedule, and all previously backed-up files are now available for restore.

East Side Servers and Routers Up

Sep 14 2004 - The east side of campus is still experiencing a power outage, howver, our servers and routers are running on a generator and there is now network access for all buildings on the east side that have power. We still do not have any further information as to when power will be restored to buildings on the east side.

Power outage update: ADSM down; most other servers up

Sep 14 2004 - As of now (11:25AM) most campus-wide services have been restored, using an emergency generator, except for the ADSM Network Backup Service.

ADSM will remain down until power is restored to the east side. In the mean time, you can neither back up nor restore files, but all files previously backed up are stored safely and will be available for restore once the power is turned back on.

The labs in BGRC (west side of campus) are also open.

Power Outage, east side of campus

Power Outage Affects the East Side of Campus

Sep 14 2004 - >At approximately 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, a water main break flooded electrical vaults on the east campus, causing a widespread power outage. Power has been restored to many buildings but remains out in others. Classes will be held in those buildings not affected by the outage.
