Blackboard repair again
 

Aug 31 2006 - We have been working with the technical support team at Blackboard Inc. to resolve our problem with the performance of Blackboard. Late in the afternoon on Thursday we made several configuration changes which were recommended by the team at Blackboard. This forced us to briefly stop and start Blackboard service a couple of times. We and the team at Blackboard Inc. are continuing to work on the problem.

 
     
BLACKBOARD down
 

Aug 30 2006 - Blackboard crashed at noon due to an Oracle Database problem. We are working to repaier the system ASAP.

This problem is new and not related to the performance problems we have already been addressing.

We apologize for inconveniences caused.

 
     
Your HomeSpace in the ACCC Labs is Read Only
 

Aug 30 2006 - You will not be able to modify nor create new files in your HomeSpace (H: drive). Files in the User HomeSpace are limited to being read and copied.

Full access to HomeSpace files will soon be activated with ACCC-Webdisks. For more information on ACCC-Webdisks, please visit: http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/itl/webdisks

 
     
Blackboard repair
 

Aug 30 2006 - Blackboard was down for emergency service Wednesday Aug 30 between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM. We applied a fix we received from the Blackboard Inc. technical support team to address the problem with performance. We tried to apply the fix yesterday evening, during a time of low usage, but we forgot one step, so we decided to try again as quickly as possible.

 
     
Blackboard is slow
 

Aug 29 2006 - We are experiencing a problem where Blackboard responds slowly during periods of peak usage. We have been working to resolve the problem since Monday morning. We are working with the technical support team at Blackboard Inc.

 
     
ACCC Lab Upgrades!
 

Aug 28 2006 - The ACCC has performed computer upgrades this summer. So, if you find yourself in SRC 2027, MRH 156, or SCE 408 you will see that there are NEW MPC computers available for your educational needs. If you find yourself in SEL 2263, SRC 2027, SES 201 or TBH 181 you will see NEW Intel iMac's available and ready to also assist you with your school needs. Coming soon, MPC computer upgrade in SPHPI B34 and Honor's lab in BH 109. Have a great semester!

ACCC Webdisks is now available in the public computer labs
 

Aug 27 2006 - You now have access to your Webdisk space from the ACCC public computer labs. Webdisks allows you to save up to 100MB of data and is accessible via any web browser.

To access your Webdisk space: 1) Double-click the Webdisk icon on the desktop 2) Click the Connect button 3) Login with your netid and common password

Files that you had previously saved into your HomeSpace are still available. Access to your HomeSpace is now available on the I: drive (previously your H: drive). Access to your files are limited to read or copy.

*IMPORTANT: Files in your HomeSpace (I: drive) will no longer be available at the end of the Fall 2006 semester. Please copy your files to your Webdisk or some other media. A program is available that will automatically copy your HomeSpace files to your Webdisk. Steps to run the program are provided below.

To access your HomeSpace: 1) Double-click the HomeFolder icon on the desktop 2) Inside the HomeFolder are two shortcuts: a) Old HomeSpace and b) Copy Old HomeSpace to Webdisk 3) To access your files double-click Old HomeSpace

To copy your HomeSpace files to Webdisk: 1) Log into your Webdisk by following the steps described above 2) Double-click the Copy Old HomeSpace to Webdisk program 3) Once the program opens, click on Migrate to Webdisk 4) The program will automatically copy your HomeSpace files into your Webdisk 5) Once the program completes, your Webdisk should contain your HomeSpace files - files are located in a folder called LabHomeSpace

Your HomeSpace in the ACCC Labs (H: drive) will be unavailable
 

Aug 24 2006 - Your HomeSpace (H: drive) will not be available in the public computing labs on Wednesday, August 23rd. During the service outage, user data will be migrated to ACCC Webdisks. Information on ACCC Webdisks is available at: http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/itl/webdisks

Stay tuned for larger homespace sizes and ways of accessing your homespace from the web.

 
     
Blackboard is up
 

Aug 23 2006 - Blackboard is up and stable. With help from the vendor (Blackboard) we fixed our problem and we completed part of the software upgrade. Blackboard was running at 10:40 A.M., but we had to stop it briefly just after Noon to fix a few minor problems created by the upgrade.

 
     
Printing charges reduced in the public computer labs
 

Aug 23 2006 - The print job charges in the public computer labs has been reduced. Black and white print jobs are now $0.08 per sheet (reduced from $0.10 per sheet). Color print jobs are now $0.80 per sheet (reduced from $1.00 per sheet).

 
     
Blackboard broken
 

Aug 23 2006 - We attempted to upgrade our production Blackboard 7.1 system by applying "hotfix 2" but it failed. This upgrade worked when we applied it to our test system. We opened a support case with the vendor and we are continuing to work on the problem.

 
     
Radius now working
 

Aug 21 2006 - Radius is working, and other services (e.g public ldap server) are also back. We're still analyzing the underlying causes.

 
     
tigger email delivery problems Wednesday
 

Aug 02 2006 - We had a problem with inbound email deliveries to accounts on tigger this morning and early afternoon. Mail was being rejected with the message shown below. This problem was due to human error and, unfortunately, it took a couple of hours before the staff was made aware of the issue. We apologize for any inconveniences caused. -- error message -- Hi. This is the qmail-send program at tigger.cc.uic.edu. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out. : /usr/local/bin/procmail: ANS1107E: not found
