Feb 22 2007 - Blackboard was restored much sooner than we anticpated (late Thursday night).

Note: Due to the catastrophic nature of the disk failure, we were forced to restore data from backup copies made very early on Thursday. Because of thi s, changes which you may have made between 1:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, Feb. 22 have been lost. We apologize for any inconveniences caused by the outag e and the loss of Thursday's AM data.

Feb 22 2007 - The Blackboard system is down and will remain down until 8am Friday 2/23.

We have suffered an extremely unlikely simultaneous failure of two disk drives in a storage array that is critical to the Blackboard system. We are working as fast as possible to restore data to replacement hardware, but it is a very time consuming task that we hope to complete by 8am tomorrow, Friday.

We sincerely regret the disruption of teaching and learning activities on Blackboard by students and instructors, and we understand the time-sensitive effect of the outage.

A number of ACCC staff members are diligently working and doing everything in th eir power to put the system back in production as soon as possible.

Feb 21 2007 - Blackboard will be down for emergency maintenance today, Wednesday February 21, 2007 from 5 P.M. to 6 P.M. We will be replacing a part on a RAID controller.

Feb 21 2007 - One of our primary external routers locked up and lost connection to the internet and to other UIC routers. A reload was necessary. All network segments are back up. We are still investigation the incident with our ISPs. We apologize for the inconvience.

Feb 15 2007 - There was a very short power glitch of the main feed on the UIC West Campus at 12:17 PM. ACCC service via UPS continued without interruption. Some minor side effects were noticed in remote locations such as wireless access points and at least one remote network switch.

Feb 13 2007 - To all faculty, students and staff,

Due to the snowstorm, the campus has canceled classes for today, Tuesday, Feb. 13, effective at 5:00 p.m.

This decision affects classes only. The campus itself is not closed; due to the residential, clinical and research operations of UIC, the campus never closes. The Medical Center, residence halls, and other facilities will continue normal operations.

We will decide by 10:00 p.m. tonight whether classes will be held tomorrow morning. A mass e-mail will be distributed and the announcement posted on the Emergency Information page of the Web site, which can be accessed via the home page or at http://www.uic.edu/index.html/emergency_preparedness.shtml. The special information telephone line, 312-413-9696, also will be updated.

Feb 13 2007 - Dear UIC faculty, students and staff,

We will return to our normal class schedule starting Wednesday morning, Feb. 14.

Students who cannot attend class on Wednesday because of the weather are asked to discuss this with their professors upon their return to campus.

We ask faculty to show flexibility to any students who miss class due to the weather.

Feb 04 2007 - Icarus will be down for Daylight Savings Time patches starting at 5:25 pm on Sunday February 4th 2007. This will affect some people's email and personal webpages, as well as direct file and shell access to Icarus.

Go watch SuperBowl XLI. Icarus will be up before the game is over.
