Dec 28 2007 -

Please note that the deadline for submitting software for the ACCC public computing labs and lecture room podium computers is December 28, 2007. Software requests must have a full set of media, documentation and proof of licensing. Incomplete software or software submitted after December 28th will not be available for classes starting in the Spring 2008 Semester.

Submit your software request as soon as possible to ensure that software will be available for Spring 2008 semester.

Dec 26 2007 - The ADSM Network Backup Service will be down for software upgrades all day Friday December 28. Prior to the upgrade, it will be brought down at 4AM so it can be completely backed up first.

This is the first of a series of hardware and software upgrades to ADSM we will be doing this winter. When it's all done, ADSM will have greater capacity, and faster performance for large restores. Watch this space for future news about the progress of this significant upgrade.

Dec 20 2007 - The Tigger service was completed and the system rebooted at 1:00 am 12/20/07

Dec 20 2007 - The ACCC has a new Web page, Guidelines for Conservation with Computer and Office Equipment, which has an outline of the things you can do to control your energy use and environmental impact with computer and networking equipment. Of particular importance for the upcoming reduced service period is for you make sure that everything in your office is turned off. That includes printers, copiers, monitors, computer speakers, and computers themselves. If you can't for some reason turn your computer off, there are the instructions how to set your Mac or Windows machine up to put itself to sleep when it is idle.

Dec 18 2007 - TIGGER will go down at 9pm this Wednesday, 12/19, in order to replace a processor controller board. The repairs should be completed by 3am Thursday. We hope this will fix a problem that affects the server's cooling mechanisms.

Dec 18 2007 - Please note that ACCC will be operating on a reduced service schedule [pdf ] between December 21, 2007 - January 2nd, 2008. What this means:

• All east campus computer labs (including SELE) and the Client Services Office will be closed at 5pm on Friday, December 21, 2007. The CSO and select labs will reopen on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008.
• BGRC computer labs will remain open to UIC students and staff who have building access.
• Support via 312-413-0003 and consult@uic.edu will not be available during the reduced service schedule.
• For emergencies, please contact Network Operations Center at 312-413-8080. NOC will be available 24/7, as always.

Dec 11 2007 - We experienced some i/o errors on one of the drives, which have been fixed. You should be able to login to icarus through Webmail now. Thank you for your patience. Operations

Dec 11 2007 - We are experiencing problems with logins to icarus through Webmail. We are working on the problem and hope to have it resolved shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience. Operations

Dec 10 2007 - There were reports of delayed logons to the Icarus server and retrieving email from Icarus via WebMail in the noon hour, 12/10. The problem was caused by a combination of CPU-intensive programs running while hardware was being replaced on the server.

Icarus was rebooted around 2pm to fix any residual problems.

Dec 09 2007 - Engineer delayed due to weather conditions, Tigger will now be down til 12pm, noon.

Dec 08 2007 - Pharos server is down, we are working to have this service available soon.

Dec 08 2007 - Tigger will be down for hardware maintenance Sunday December 9 from 9AM to 11AM.

Dec 07 2007 - The Webmail system is scheduled to be down this Friday December 7th from 5-6pm. We hope the outage will actually be less than an hour, but if something unexpected happens, it might extend past an hour. We are working with a vendor to resolve an issue with a disk storage system and we want to do the work while the vendor's support staff is readily available.

The same system maintenance will also affect some other systems as well. Some mailboxes will be unable to be accessed even by even by non-Webmail mail clients such as Eudora. If your account is on the mailserv system, there is about a 10% chance you will be affected.

Dec 02 2007 - Blackboard will be down for maintenance Sunday December 2 from 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. We will be enlarging filesystems.
