- Wimba Voice Recorder
Voice Recorder, one of six Wimba Voice Tools , is a very simple and versatile tool that allows instructors to easily make audio recordings in any of the Blackboard Content Areas. As is the case for all Voice Tools, there is a simple user interface consisting of a Record, Play, Pause, Stop and Save buttons. One simply clicks Record and begins speaking directly into the microphone of a Windows PC or Macintosh.
Anyone in the Blackboard site can play back the audio recordings at anytime, usually accompanying and enriching other instructional textual materials. Recordings can also be downloaded and saved as MP3 audio files.
- Wimba Podcaster
Wimba Podcaster is very similar and as easy to use as Voice Recorder , except that it creates subscribeable audio Podcasts. Instructors simply speak into the microphone to make a recording or upload an MP3 file into Wimba Podcaster to create a Podcast.
Students and anyone in the Blackboard site can easily click the audio files to listen to them through Blackboard or subscribe to the iTunes and RSS feeds to have Podcasts automatically downloaded for playback on their MP3 players or personal computers.
- Wimba Voice Board
Voice Boards are threaded audio-based discussion boards that can be used to carry class discussion activities and exercises with voice and text. Instructors can also use private Voice Boards to collect student audio assignments and to carry private threaded voice conversations with their students.
- Podcast Content
Podcast Content is another simple tool that seamlessly integrates Podcasts with Blackboard. While Podcast Content can also be used to upload Podcasts to Blackboard sites, this tool is best used to link to subscribeable Podcasts stored outside of Blackboard sites, for instance, on UIC Class WebDisks, iTunesU or any other Podcast repository.
Podcast Content entries can be listed along with related PowerPoint presentations, PDF files or links to other Web pages associated with the Podcast.
