What is My Expo Sites (Expo LX™)?

Expo LX™ is a dynamic personal website builder and blogging tool. Highly flexible and easy to configure, Expo LX allows users to create rich media websites for a wide array of purposes.

Promote community via blogs and wikis

With Expo LX, users can easily build websites relevant to their personal interests and activities. Moreover, their sites can be interactive. A user can create blogs and wikis within a site and, at through an individually-selected option, allow viewers to comment and contribute content. By facilitating such online interaction, Expo LX builds connections and fosters collaborative learning online.

Publish and share academic portfolios

Expo LX provides a convenient platform for publishing specialized content, such as student achievements or faculty research. Users can easily designate access permissions to specific Expo pages by viewer role. Additionally, templates can be designed at the administrator level to prescribe standardized content areas.

Create institutional knowledge bases

Expo LX provides users the ability to create shared workspaces to suit their particular objectives. Researchers can collaborate on discipline-specific sites, and faculty can easily publish departmental information. Images, uploaded files, and links to external resources add to the richness of the shared sites.

Q: How do I create an Expo?

Log into your Blackboard course and on your "My UIC" tab on the left hand column under "Tools" there is a link for "My Expo Sites". Click this link and from here you will be able to create an Expo site by clicking on "Add New Site".

Q: Should I create a Wiki or Blog?

It really depends on the purpose of what you are creating. A blog and wiki have different strengths so if it is beneficial to have an "ongoing story" a blog is a great solution. However, if you need a tool that allows one to pick and choose the information needed a wiki is a better option.

Q: How can I locate other Expo entries?

Click on "My Directory" and from here you can select individuals or run a search.

Q: Can I designate others to help contribute to my blog or wiki?

Yes, once you create a new blog or wiki click on "sharing" under the Toolbox header. This will provide you the option to invite an individual and grand specific permissions for them to access the blog or wiki.
