Multipoint Calls Within UIC
In order to schedule a conference using the MCU please contact Ernie Duran in the ACCC Telecommunications department at 312-996-3282. You will need to provide information about the date and time of the conference, as well as the number of participants that will need access. Currently a single MCU can support up to 9 participants at 384kbps. The MCUs can be cascaded to support a maximum of 16 concurrent connections at 384kbps. After you schedule your conference you will be given a "conference ID".
In order to connect to the multipoint conference you will need to make sure that all the endpoints are configured properly, and distribute the conference ID. To configure your endpoint to participate in multipoint conferences you will need to use the correct gatekeeper - the IP address of the UIC gatekeeper is 128.248.5.19. Also be sure to input a unique H.323 extension - we highly recommend using the 5 digit extension of the office that you are located in. After your unit is configured properly you will be able to type in the conference ID that you will be given after your scheduling request is confirmed. Dial this conference ID and you will connect to the MCU. If the conference ID you have been assigned is 8351*1234 you and all the other involved parties would dial:
8351*1234
POINT TO POINT WITHIN UIC
If you would like to place point to point calls to other offices at UIC you will need the other parties H.323 extension. If the parties H.323 extenstion is 34567 you would dial:
34567
You could also dial the other party directly by dialing their IP address.

Multipoint Calls to Urbana
If you have been invited to participate in a multipoint conference that is being hosted on Urbana's MCU you will again need to get the conference ID, but this time you will be dialing a bit differently. Since Urbana is part of the VideNet dialing scheme you will not need to configure your endpoint to find their gatekeeper, but you will need to dial the Urbana "zone id" or "peer prefix" in addition to the conference ID. The zone ID for Urbana is 0011159, so if you were given a conference ID of 56789 you would want to dial:
0011159 56789
POINT TO POINT CALLS TO URBANA
If you would like to place point to point calls to Urbana you will need the Urbana "zone id" (0011159) as well as the other parties H.323 extension. If the parties H.323 extenstion is 34567 you would dial:
0011159 34567
You could also dial the other party directly by dialing their IP address.
HOSTING MULTIPOINT CONFERENCES WITH URBANA PARTICIPANTS
Urbana is a member of the VideNet and is compliant with the VideNet 3 dialin scheme. To host a multipoint conference with Urbana participants you should first contact Ernie Duran in the ACCC Telecommunications department at 312-996-3282.
After you have scheduled the MCU you will need to know a few important details - the conference ID, and depending upon who else you are inviting, UIC's peer prefix.
The UIC peer prefix is:
0013124138080
Your conference ID will be assigned when you schedule the MCU, so for example, if you are assigned a conference ID 8351*1234 then you would tell the participants to dial:
00131241380808351*1234

Multipoint Calls To CIC Institutions
If you have been invited to participate in a multipoint conference that is being hosted on a CIC MCU you will again need to get the conference ID, but this time you will be dialing a bit differently. Since most CIC institutions are part of the VideNet dialing scheme you will not need to configure your endpoint to find their gatekeeper, but you will need to dial the "zone id" or "peer prefix" in addition to the conference ID. The administrator of the conference should be able to give you their zone ID as well as the conference ID. So, for example, if the zone ID for the institution is 0011159, and you were given a conference ID of 56789 you would want to dial:
0011159 56789
POINT TO POINT CALLS TO CIC INSTITUTIONS
If you would like to place point to point calls to other CIC institutions you will need the institutions "zone id" as well as the other parties H.323 extension. So, for example, if the zone ID for the institution is 0011159, and the other parties H.323 entension is 34567 you would want to dial:
0011159 34567
If for some reason the other party you are calling does not know the zone ID you could also dial them directly by dialing in their IP address.
HOSTING MULTIPOINT CALLS FOR PARTICIPANTS FROM OTHER CIC INSTITUTIONS
If you want to host a multipoint videoconference at UIC you will first have to schedule the MCU by contacting Ernie Duran in the ACCC Telecommunications department at 312-996-3282.
After you have scheduled the MCU you will need to know a few important details - the conference ID, and depending upon who else you are inviting, UIC's peer prefix.
If you are inviting participants from other institutions you should ask them if they are members of VideNet, and if so are they compliant with the VideNet version 3 dialing scheme. If the institution is VideNet 3 compliant then they will need to know our peer prefix and our conference ID. The UIC peer prefix is:
0013124138080
Your conference ID will be assigned when you schedule the MCU, so for example, if you are assigned a conference ID 8351*1234 then you would tell the insitution to dial:
00131241380808351*1234
If the institution is not VideNet 3 compliant, or are not members of VideNet then please refer to the next section: "Multipoint calls to other institutions".

Multipoint Calls To Other Institutions
If you have been invited to participate in a multipoint conference that is being hosted on another MCU that is not associated with the CIC and is not a member of the VideNet dialing scheme you will need to get the conference ID, and you will need to change the gatekeeper settings on your endpoint. Be sure to ask the other party for the IP address of their MCU and configure your endpoint by setting the Gatekeeper information to recognize this IP address. After you have adjusted the gatekeeper information and rebooted your endpoint you will be able to input the conference ID and connect.
POINT TO POINT CALLS TO OTHER INSTITUTIONS
If you would like to place point to point calls to other institutions you can dial them directly by dialing in their IP address.
INVITING OTHER INSTITUTIONS TO PARTICIPATE IN A UIC HOSTED MULTIPOINT
If you would like to host a multipoint conference and invite other (non CIC, non VideNet, non Urbana) institutions you should first contact Ernie Duran in the ACCC Telecommunications department at 312-996-3282 to schedule usage of the MCU. You will be assigned a multipoint conference ID. After you have your conference ID tell the other institution to adjust their equipment so that the gatekeeper points to 128.248.5.19, and then give them the conference ID to dial.
