About IP Videoconferencing (IPVC)

IP Videoconferencing (IPVC) supports two-way or more video and audio communication over a standard high speed internet connection. In the past videoconferencing was an expensive and complicated method of communication, but with Polycom ViewStations and ViaVideos you can be communicating with someone on the other side of the world in a matter of minutes.

For business quality (30 frame per second) videoconferencing you must have an internet connection (unique IP address) and a fairly reliable high speed internet connection (roughly 450kbps.) The Polycom equipment we discuss in these support pages can conduct conferences at anywhere between 128kbps through 768kbps, depending upon which Polycom unit you are using. The higher the bandwidth that you connect at, the higher the quality you will see in the videoconference. IP videoconferencing is very bandwidth intensive; failure to supply the unit with a reliable high speed connection will degrade videoconference performance. Polycom 512 Viewstations need a 10Mbps/half duplex connection. If they are connected at 100Mbps/full duplex they will not perform optimally.
