ACCC WebDisks - Windows Users

Using WebDisks in Microsoft Windows

To use WebDisks in Microsoft Windows you have 3 methods to choose from:

1 - Using your Internet Explorer webbrowser
2 - Using the "My Network Places" functionality to add a remote network drive folder
3 - Using the Novell Netdrive application to store, access, and retrieve files remotely

Using WebDisks - Internet Explorer web browser

In order to use WebDisks from a web browser please visit:

http://webdisks.uic.edu

and login using your netid as your username and your ACCC common password as your password.

You will be brought into the blackboard interface where you will see the main "My UIC" tab, as well as a series of other tabs and links. Click on the tab labeled "Content System" in order to enter the ACCC WebDisk environment.

Once logged in to the WebDisk system you will see several buttons that correspond to WebDisk options. You will be able to perform the commands associated with those buttons by clicking on them:

In order to upload a file click on the button labeled "Add File" - to create a folder directory structure click on the button labeled "Add Folder".

After adding your files and folders you can log out of WebDisk and then log in and access your files from any web browser and internet connected computer.

Using WebDisks - My Network Places
To set up WebDisks using the Windows "My Network Places" interface follow these steps:

1 - First login to the Blackboard Content System by visiting:

http://blackboard.uic.edu

Login using your netid as your username and ACCC common password as your password. Once you have logged in click on the tab labeled "Content System". Click on the log out button.

2 - Click Start>My Network Places

3 - Click "Add a Network Place" - you will be walked through a series of dialogue boxes prompting you for information. The first dialogue box will ask you where you would like to create the network place - choose "Choose another network location" and click "Next".

4 - You will be prompted to type in information related to the Internet address of this location. In the text box please type:

http://blackboard.uic.edu/bbcswebdav/users/your_uic_netid

where the portion of the link "your_uic_netid" is replaced with your actual UIC netid. Click next.

5 - You will be prompted for your UIC netid and password. Type them in and click "OK".

6 - After creating the network place you will be prompted to "Finish" as well as whether or not you would like to open the network place upon completion. If you choose to do so you will be prompted to authenticate once more.

7 - After setting up the network place and authenticating you will now have a folder that you can link to from your desktop, or drag and drop the linked folder anywhere on your computer that you see fit!

Using WebDisks - Novell Netdrive

What is NetDrive? Using this utility you can log into WebDisks, but instead of using a web browser or a "My Network Places" folder, it will map your network drives to a spare drive letter on your PC. This way you can browse into the files and folders using Explorer as if they were on your local computer.

Novell Netdrive can be downloaded by clicking on the link below:
