ACCC WebDisks - FAQs

All faculty support for WebDisks is handled through the ITL - if you have questions about using the system, or would like more information please send an email to itl@uic.edu.

I clicked on the link labeled "Add a WebDisk" using Internet Explorer and I received a "page cannot be displayed error message" - what is wrong?

Due to a recent web browser security update the "Add a web folder" button functionality has broken. Blackboard is working on a solution to this issue. In the meantime you can always use the "Add a network place" functionality outlined in the Windows setup pages to the left to set up your WebDisk.

I am trying to connect to the Blackboard Content System using Mac OS X and Panther but I am receiving an error message - what is wrong?

You have to use Tiger because of some fixes to the WebDAV client in Tiger. You can also use Goliath - a freeware WebDAV client. For details on setting up your Mac to work with Goliath and WebDisks click on the "Macintosh" link to the left.

I am trying to access my folders from a webbrowser - when I open up the page I can see a listing of my folders, but when I click on the folder itself I receive an error message stating "Document Access Error" and when I look in the address window I see a lot of %20 signs - what is going on?

In order to view your folder content properly by clicking on the folder links themselves you must be in the blackboard content system environment. There is currently a bug in the system that appends extra spaces into links when accessed directly from a browser window that is not within the blackboard content system frameset. The workaround is either

A - log in to blackboard and click on the link to the Content System tab to browse your files and folders, or

B - type the URLs for the folder contents directly into the browser Address bar. For example, if you open up your browser and see a listing of three folders named folder1, folder2, and folder3 you would use the URL:

http://blackboard.uic.edu/bbcswedav/users/your_uic_netid/folder1

to access the contents of "folder1".
