OS X Instructions for Pharos Popups

Before you install
|

Confirm ports 515 and 28303 are open on any firewall you are running.
Popup is currently not compatible with the Fast User Switching feature of Mac OS X 10.3 and later. Always disable Fast User Switching when installing Popup on a client machine.

Download and Install the Popups Client
|
| |
- Please visit the Pharos site to download the Popup.dmg file
The most recent version was released on 1/25/2007
Double-click on the installer to run it. You may need to authenticate yourself as an administrator to run the installer. Select the volume to install the Popup application. Click Install. The installer will complete the installation automatically.

Configure the Pharos Popup Client
|

In the Popup Setup Assistant, use the following values:
Server Address: printing.cc.uic.edu
Server Port: 28203 (the default)
Server Timeout (s): 30 (the default)
- Click Continue
- For Client Port, use the default value of 28212.
- Click Continue
- Click Continue again
- Click Done

Define the Uprint Printers in 10.3 and 10.4
|

- Open Printer Setup Utility, Applications -> Utilities -> Printer Setup Utility
- Click Add, or via the menu, Printers -> Add Printer.
- In the IP Printer window, hold down Option and click More Printers...
- From the top popup button, select Advanced
- From the Device popup button, select Pharos Printer Server.
- In the Device Name field, enter ACCC-SPOOL-MACPOP
- In the Device URI field, enter popup://printing.cc.uic.edu/ACCC-SPOOL-MACPOP
- From the Printer Model popup menu, choose HP, then choose HP LaserJet 9050 Series
- Click Add
- Then quit the Printer Setup Utility

Defining OS X 10.5 Printers
|

- Open System Preferences and click on the Print Fax icon.
- Click the + button.
- Hold down the Control key on the keyboard and click anywhere on the toolbar. From the popup menu that appears, select Customize Toolbar....
- Drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar and close the customization dialog.
- Click on the Advanced button in the toolbar.
- From the Type popup button, select Pharos Print Server.
- In the URL field, enter the Unified Resource Identifier for the desired Popup queue on a Pharos Print Server. This value should be popup://printing.cc.uic.edu:515/ACCC-SPOOL-MACPOP.
- Important: Do NOT use the address of the target printer. "print_server_address" should always be the address of a Pharos Print Server. Do NOT remove the "popup://" or ":515" parts of the URI.
- In the Name field, enter a name for the new printer queue. This is the name that will be shown to users on the machine.
- From the Print Using popup button, select the type of printer associated with the Popup queue. If the desired printer is not available, selecting "Generic PostScript Printer" will work in most cases.
Click Add. The new Popup queue will now show up in the list of printers.
- To print to the new queue, select it from the printer popup button in the print dialog of any application.
You can substitute the following values for name, Device URI, and model to add additions campus printers
