Question 1.1 How do I request for Server Services?
-
ACCC Server Services have been replaced by ADDA "Active Directory Desktop Advantage". For
detailed instruction on how to sign up and use ADDA, check out the documentation
here.
Question 1.2 What is my login name for ADDA?
-
ADDA is integrated to ACCC Active Directory hence you will be using your netid and
common password when you login to ADDA services.
Question 1.3 I have ADDA subscription but why am I getting login error?
- This error is typically caused by passing a wrong credential to the resources being accessed, otherwise it is
possibly a permission setting error.
- Problems with wrong credentials: It is possible that your Active Directory
password is not in sync with your common password. A simple reset of the common password
should correct this problem.
- Permission problems: If you have already reset your common password and
are still unable to access the ADDA resources, permissions might need to be corrected. Email
LAN@uic.edu and we will gladly check and correct this permission
error for you.
Question 1.4
My access to ADDA failed after installing a firewall.
What type of settings do I need to change to access ADDA again?
-
You can configure your firewall using
Host names. Set the
firewall to give acces to the following host names:
Question 1.5 What software is available from ADDA?
Question 1.6 What do I do when I get the warning message that my Key client is obsolete?
- The New Version of Key Client is needed to manage any applications provided
through ADDA.
If you have downloaded any application from Server Services or ADDA, these
applications will require that you update your key client to the new version.
- Please UNINSTALL the key client on your computer before
putting the new version of Key Client. You can
do this by going to the computer settings --> control panel --> Add and Remove programs
and uninstall Sassafras Key Client or
sometimes it appears as Key Access.
You will be prompted to reboot your system after a successful install.
- The New Version of Key Client is available from the
ADDA client interface. Installer is called
k2client.exe. If you are
using client.msi, note that this is an older
installer and will only install the old key client.
Please check that you are using k2client.exe to install the new
Key Client. Your system will restart
after a successful install.
- Please check the updated version of Key Client that
you just installed on your computer. You can track
down the files that were installed either by windows search
or explore into the following directory c:\windows\ and
the main file that you should look at is: keyacc32.exe.
Check the version of this file and make sure that it says
6.1.2 and not the older version (6.0.0.8). This old version
of keyacc32.exe notifies our server and will result to the
warning that you received.
Question 1.7 When accessing software installed via ADDA, I get the error "Searching
for shadow"
- There are a few possible causes that can generate such an error:
- Main server not responding: The keyserver is not responding
error is generated for a few seconds (The error message pops up and instantly
goes away). In this case, you should not worry and continue using ADDA.
The error is generated as a result of the main server not responding to your
initial request. However, we have backup servers standing by to respond to
users' request in case the main server fails.
- Back up Server not responding: When the keyserver is not responding
error message lasts longer than a few seconds, indicates that the search for
the backup keyserver has also failed. In this case, send email to lan@uic.edu
or call the ACCC ADDA helpdesk at 312 355-0857 for prompt
assistance.
- Faulty key access files:. The faulty key access files error
can be corrected by doing the following:
- Search for
Keyacc*.*.
- Delete all the files located by the search. Some of the files may be
in use, thus preventing you from deleting those files. If this happens,
you have to re-start the machine in safe-mode and delete those files.
- Install key client using steps outlined in Outdated Key access files below.
- Outdated key access files:. The outdated key access files
can be corrected by (re)installing the latest key client. An installer
called k2client.exe is available to modify, repair, or remove
your current key access files. By installing, repairing or modifying your
key access files, you will be able you to access applications installed
via ADDA.
- Connecting using an external IP address:. Non-UIC IP addresses are
restricted in accessing UIC ACCC ADDA resources. If you are
connecting from a remote location, please verify that you have UIC-VPN client
installed and running on your system before attempting to use ACCC ADDA
Network resources.
- VPN client is available as a free download in the University of Illinois Webstore.
- Installation and configuration of VPN client is available in the ACCC VPN
resource page.
Question 1.8 Can I use ADDA Software when I am
disconnected from the network: On the train or at home?
-

each application from our License Server. To check out licenses from the
server, use KEYCHECKOUT program which is available from the ADDA client interface.
-
Click and bookmark this link:

- Run the Keycheckout program from this location.
-

copy the licenses to.
To do this: In the Keycheckout program, click on File -> Scannable Drives
and then point to the C: drive.
-
Next just drag and drop the licenses that you need to your local drive.

the default is 1 day, the maximum is 10 days.
Question 1.9 Can I access my files on the server from other locations
using a Web broswer with Internet access?
