Keyserv Fundamentals
KeyAccess and KeyCheckout
-
Software License Tracking Software
-
KeyServer, developed by Sassafras Software, is used by ACCC for tracking and auditing
software licenses
used on and off campus. A dedicated server is currently handling all license key requests. A backup server (KeyShadow)
is setup for redundancy if the primary server becomes unavailable.
-
KeyAccess
-
KeyAccess is the user's interface to the
KeyServer. This client, when properly configured, will connect you to the KeyServer, allowing you permission to launch a controlled
application. KeyAccess is completely invisible. You do not need to perform any special task or login sequence to have access to KeyServer
controlled programs. When using KeyAccess, it is important to note that network connectivity is necessary to launch applications controlled
by ACCC's KeyServer.
-
KeyCheckout
-
KeyCheckout is a special client that allows you to obtain portable keys that allow keyed applications to be launched without a network
connection. Every portable key has an expiration date, after which you will not be able to launch
the keyed application without a connection to ACCC's KeyServer.
- The first time you run the KeyCheckout program, you need to enter to the drive that you will copy the licenses to. To do this:
- Click on File -> Scannable Drives and then point to the C: drive.
- Drag and drop the licenses that you need to your local drive.
- Make sure you type in the number of days your laptop is going to be off the network; default is 1 day, the maximum is 10 days.
-
Installation of KeyClients
-
The current version of the KeyClients that are supported by the ACCC is v 7.0. Click HERE to download the KeyAccess client OR click
HERE for the KeyCheckout client. Note that you must uninstall
any previous versions of KeyAccess or KeyCheckout from your machine before this installation. Ignoring this step
will result in a failed installation.
