Introduction to ADNS
ADNS is a file sharing resource wich allows users to store their files in ACCC File Server. This service provides users with a highly redundant, highly available, fully backed-up, lifetime storage of personal or departmental files.
This resource is made available to all ADDA subscribers whose department has requested File Storage Space. This service comes in an increment of 10GB for an one-time fee of $200
the files are stored on a Server Class Windows R2 Server. Access to these files are available independent of location. You may be working from home and the Network files in ADNS is availalbe for you to access.
Excluding extreme circumstance, it is our goal to have these network files available to you 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
How to Access ADNS on a PC
You will need to have good credentials to access ADNS
  • netid : [ ad\netid i.e. ad\syu3 ]
  • common password: [ aka: your email password ]
  • PAY ATTENTION TO THE FORMAT OF THE NETID
  • Right click on My Computer icon and select Map Network Drive
  • Type in the any unused letter for Drive and fill in \\uic-cc-ss3.server.uic.edu\dept_name for Folder
  • Click on different user name and enter your AD credential: ad\netid and common password.
  • Click on Finish to map your Network Drive
How to Access ADNS on a Mac
  • Select Go in the menu bar and select Connect to Server
  • In the Server Address field type in afp://uic.cc.ss3.server.uic.edu/dept_name and click on Connect
    • or smb://uic-cc-ss3.server.uic.edu/dept_name and click on Connect
  • Enter your AD credentials and click Connect
  • Once connected, you can select the volumes that you have permission to mount to and click on OK
Cost of ADNS
Requested disk space are available in blocks of 10 GB with setup fee in the following scheduled rates:
Every 10 GB $ 200
Off-Campus access to ADNS
Network outside of UIC are restricted from accessing the server that hosts our Network shares. To bypass this restriction, please install and run the UIC VPN Client. With VPN running on your computer, you should be able to map to the network share as describe in the section "How to Access ADNS".
