	On Saturday February 11, 2012 from 5:30AM until NOON  ACCC-Telecommunications will  perform  an upgrade on the  Octel  Voice Mail System (ext. 3-9500).  All Automated Attendants and voice mail boxes will be down during this period.

	If your automated attendant requires coverage during this time please forward your phones to another number.

		    &#x3C;div class=&#x22;originalPost&#x22;&#x3E;The ADSM-1 backup server will be unavailbale for backups this weekend, from 8:00AM Saturday, February 4, until 8:00AM Monday, February 6. This is so it can catch up on vital housekeeping tasks such as deleting obsolete data. Last week&#x27;s power outage in SEL damaged a power supply in this machine and left it down for 1.5 days. There was no corruption of backed-up data or of its own database and it has now caught up on all missed backups, but it still hasn&#x27;t caught up with its internal housekeeping chores -- leaving it overflowing with old data it has not had a chance to expire and delete. If it can complete these tasks before 8:00AM Monday, it will be made available again ahead of schedule.
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
This will not affect the ADSM-2, ADSM-3, and ADSM-4 servers, which will continue to operate normally. You can tell which server you are using with the nslookup command on the Server Address from your TSM configuration, in any Mac, Windows, or Unix command line window

		    &#x3C;div class=&#x22;originalPost&#x22;&#x3E;On February 1, UIC Police learned of an off-campus sexual assault of a UIC student that occurred on January 28. On that date, between 2:30 and 3 p.m., the victim was grabbed at knifepoint on Paulina Street just south of Harrison Street. The offenders threatened the victim and placed a dark hat over her head and eyes, led her to a vehicle and pushed her inside, where she was sexually assaulted. The victim was punched and pushed out of the vehicle and later reported that she lost consciousness when she hit the ground.  She was treated at UIC Hospital and is receiving survivor support services from the UIC Campus Advocacy Network.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;*** UIC Police strongly recommend complying with an armed offender&#x27;s demand for property or valuables, but RESISTING an abduction if possible, which the victim in this case could not do safely. ***&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Other security tips:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Be aware of your surroundings. Use all five of your senses to be alert for danger, and when walking alone, don&#x27;t wear headphones or ear-buds.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Avoid displaying electronic devices on the street.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Try to travel in groups when possible, particularly after dark.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Use well-lit walkways.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-On campus, look for the location of the nearest emergency call box (there are more than 1,500 across campus.)&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-The emergency number for UIC Police is 5-5555 or 312-355-5555, which should be set on speed-dial on your cell phone.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Report crime promptly to police.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;CPD Area Four Detectives are conducting the follow-up investigation. 	Last week&#x27;s power failure resulted in some corruption of the calendar database (even though it&#x27;s not supposed to).   
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;
	Oracle recommended running a DB repair utility, which we successfully ran over the weekend on a copy of the DB (10 hours run time, do to the large DB size).
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;
	Tonight we will be running the utility against the production database and we&#x27;re reserving a couple of extra hours of wiggle room, so UICal will be down 8pm-8am.  
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;
	We apologize in advance for any inconveniences caused by this downtime.

<title>UIC General Classrooms - Upgrades, Renovations, and More!</title>

		    &#x3C;div class=&#x22;originalPost&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;We are happy to announce that an extensive amount of work was done in numerous East Side UIC classrooms during this winter break.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;  &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;These projects were completed by the LETS group of the ACCC and, where noted, by the Office of Campus Learning Environments (OCLE).&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;  &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;Below are some details of the projects that were completed this winter break:&#x3C;/span&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;
	&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;
	&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
	The&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;b&#x3E;UICast Lecture Capture&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E; service was expanded to the following locations: Burnham Hall rooms 304, 305, 308, 309, 317, B6, and Lecture Centers B1 and E1.  With these additions, &#x3C;b&#x3E;UICast&#x3C;/b&#x3E; is now available in 37 East Side classrooms, including &#x3C;b&#x3E;ALL&#x3C;/b&#x3E; general-use full multimedia (IML) rooms with a capacity of at least 70 students!&#x3C;b&#x3E;   &#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;
	&#x3C;b&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;Power Savings&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x2013; Work was done in &#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E;15 classrooms to install power controllers that allow the multimedia lecterns to shut down overnight to save power and extend equipment lifespans.  All rooms with modern Integrated Multimedia Lecterns (IMLs) now have this power saving feature installed!  A byproduct of this change is that all IMLs have two power outlets on the side of the lecterns for instructor laptops/etc.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;
	&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
	&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
	&#x3C;b&#x3E;DVD Playback&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x2013; Three large lecture rooms (Lecture Centers A1, D2, and D5) had DVD/VCR players added to their IMLs&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E;, providing standalone DVD playback to all modern IML classrooms.  Additionally, all ADA accessible IMLs (7 total) now have the same equipment layout and interface.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;b&#x3E;   &#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;
	&#x3C;b&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;Plug and Play Rooms&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x2013; One last classroom (Burnham Hall 208) with an older generation of plug and play control had its equipment upgraded, now providing the same interface in all 26 Plug and Play classrooms!&#x3C;/span&#x3E;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;
	&#x3C;b&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;Lecture Center B1&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x2013; The last of the large lecture rooms with an older generation multimedia system received an extensive upgrade over the break!  With the help of the OCLE, the flooring at the front of the room was replaced, and the chalkboard was replaced with a whiteboard.  From the multimedia perspective, the entire system was replaced with a modern IML with the same interface as those in the other large lecture rooms, and lighting control for the room is being integrated into the lectern&#x2019;s control panel (as was done in Lecture Center E1 last year).   &#x3C;/span&#x3E;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;
	&#x3C;b&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;Burnham Hall 305&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x2013; The multimedia system in Burnham Hall room 305 was replaced with a full multimedia system that takes up less space, provides a much better projected image, and is much easier to use&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E;!&#x3C;/span&#x3E;   &#x3C;/span&#x3E;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;b&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;Stevenson Hall&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;&#x22;&#x3E;- Rooms 100, 119, and 120 received a wall-mounted plasma screen with a DVD/VCR player and a connection for a laptop, to enhance the capabilities of these rooms.  Only one classroom in Stevenson Hall (312) remains to add multimedia capabilities!

&#x3C;span class=&#x22;apple-converted-space&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;b&#x3E;Taft Hall&#x3C;/b&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x2013; Rooms 300, 301, 304, 305, 313, and 317 received a wall-mounted LCD panel with a DVD/VCR player and a connection for a laptop, to enhance the capabilities of these rooms.

The student was walking south when a silver SUV stopped abreast of her. An offender exited the vehicle and attempted to pull her purse from her grasp. The student held firm as witnesses began to yell. The offender fled to his vehicle without the purse and headed west on Lexington.  The student was not injured.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;UIC Police offer the following security tips:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Be aware of your surroundings. Use all five of your senses to be alert for danger, and when walking alone, don&#x27;t wear headphones or ear-buds.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Avoid displaying electronic devices on the street.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Try to travel in groups when possible, particularly after dark.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Use well-lit walkways.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-On campus, look for the location of the nearest emergency call box (there are more than 1,500 across campus.)&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-The emergency number for UIC Police is 5-5555 or 312-355-5555, which should be set on speed-dial on your cell phone.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;-Report crime promptly to police.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;The UICPD/CPD Joint Robbery Task Force and Area Four Detectives are conducting the follow-up investigation.  The offender is described as a black male, 18-25 years old, 140-160 pounds, of medium complexion, with short black hair, and wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans.
