Connecting with the MacTCP

Macintosh Computers before system 7.5.2 use MacTCP for networking by default. This document describes how to configure MacTCP to connect to UIC ethernet Network.
If you are using a newer Macintosh, look for the configuration information on our main Connecting to the UIC Network via Ethernet Page.
If you need information on using MacTCP to dialin via a modem, check our Dialin page for more information.

Go to the MacTCP Control Panels. Highlight Ethernet
Then click on MORE... Then make sure you have the following settings:

  • Obtain address or Configure = Enter your IP address here. If you don't know your IP address, call the Client Services Office.

  • Default Gateway address = This should be your IP address, substituting the last set of numbers for a 1. For example, if you IP address were 128.248.133.102, then your gateway should be 128.248.133.1

  • Class = B

  • Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0 (use the pointer to change it in MacTCP)

  • Domain Name Servers:
Use the IP addresses below and put a single dot (.) in the hostname column.
    128.248.2.50
    128.248.7.50
    128.248.171.50

Exit the control panel, choosing to save if it asks, and then you will need to restart your Mac.
