UIC Announce Usage Policy

UIC announce is for the exclusive use of UIC faculty, staff and students. Announcements submitted by on campus organizations or departments must clearly state how the events are associated with UIC. Anyone submitting an announcement will be held responsible for it's content. Under no circumstance will an announcement be allowed to solicit illegal acts or items. Any announcement that is found in violation of this policy will be removed and the poster will receive a warning. Continuing to violate the policy will result in the suspension of the poster's privileges to post on UIC Announce. The suspension period may last from two weeks to one month.

The UIC announce system was developed to post announcements electronically via the Web. UIC Announce makes it easy to post a brief announcement on the Web, and to send a one line summary of your announcement to the audience that will be most interested in it. Several event types are available. Below is the list of event types available and a brief description of each. Note that announcements that do not conform to the intended use of the event type that it is posted under will result in a warning or supension of the posters posting privleges.

Note event types with asterisks (*) beside them are event types that are not allowed to have event dates.

Conference	Announce a Conference.
Seminar	Announce a Seminar.
Meeting	Announce a departmental or organizational meeting open to the public.
Educ/Training	Announce a campus educational or training session.
Sports/Fitness	Events sponsored by a UIC department or organization such as a sports competition or fitness class.
Informational	Used to inform the UIC community about general events occurring on campus.
Research Funding	Announce that funding is available for research or the need for funding proposals.
Scholarship/Grants	Announcing availability of grants and scholarships or deadlines for submissions.
Position Available	Positions on campus offered by a UIC department or jobs announced by student employment.
Arts&Entertainment	Events under this category must be either on campus or sponsored by a UIC department or organization.
*Roommate/Housing	Roommate search or housing (i.e. "Apartment for rent") available in the UIC campus area.
*Buy/Sell/Want	For UIC affiliated posters who want to buy, sell, or want items such as books, electronics, furniture, etc. (Real Estate is not considered as an item)
*Surplus Have/Want	For departments having or wanting items in surplus.
*Lost and Found	Searching for a lost item or announcing having found a lost item.
Webcast	Announce a Webcast.
News Alert	To be used by Public Affairs to notify the UIC community of emergency events having occurred on campus or in the Chicago area.
Ozone Alert	Notify the UIC community of environmental dangers.

• DO Have a short but clear title.
• DO Try to include important information in the title such as dates and time.
• DO Spell check your announcement before submitting.
• DO Be clear in your announcement on how the event is related to your organization or department.
  
  
• DON'T Submit announcements for commercial Web sites.
• DON'T Submit multiple copies of the same announcement.
• DON'T Submit an announcement for someone else.
• DON'T Use obscene or offensive language in the announcement.
• DON'T Embellish subject lines with repeated special or upper case characters.
• DON'T Post your home for sale!
