ACCC Math Learning Center - Laptop Usage Policy (Draft)
In addition to the Laptop Usage Policy defined here, use of the MLC laptops constitutes acceptance of the ACCC Acceptable Use Policy, in addition to other policies
available at: http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/policies
Laptop check out is limited to current UIC students/faculty and staff with valid ACCC netid credentials.
Priority use of laptops is for Math Department faculty and students using the MLC for math assistance.
Two photo IDs are required on laptop checkout: 1) UIC icard and 2) a government-issued photo ID (e.g., drivers's licence or state ID card, passport)
Network access to this lab is the same as other ACCC labs: if your lab account is suspended or if your ability to connect wirelessly is denied, we must reject your
request to check out a laptop. The login process will fail.
Laptop usage limit is 3 hours.
You may connect your own devices to the laptop ports at your own risk.
If the device is not supported without additional software installed, a request will have to be sent to lan@uic.edu for the request to be considered.
Please note that the consultant on duty CANNOT help you with this request.
email will be sent to you (at netid@uic.edu) each time a laptop is checked out or checked in. We recommend you keep these email receipts as records of your activity.
Until thoroughly tested and revised, we ask that the laptop Login and Logoff process be done in the presence of the ACCC consultant.
An integrity check is run upon laptop check in. Users should remain present until that process is completed.
Damage to the laptop incurred during the time you have it checked out will be charged to your UIC account, viewable via e-Bills. Charges
will vary according to the cost of restoring the machine to working condition up to the full amount of replacing the laptop ($1750).
The MLC closes at 6pm. Laptops should be checked in by 5:40pm so that all check in procedures can be completed.
A user associated with a stolen laptop (i.e., checked out to that individual when stolen) will have a police report filed against them and full laptop replacement
charges will be made to their University account (e-Bills).
Questions or concerns about MLC use and policies should be directed to lan@uic.edu.
