| Consequences for Copyright Infringement and peer-to-peer (p2p) abuse | ||
If the ACCC receives a notification of copyright infringement we will take the following actions: A) Suspend the user's campus account if we can determine the user If the machine is a department machine we will notify the NETSECs for that zone. It is then the responsibility of the NETSEC to determine the user of the machine and report this information to the security group. The user also needs to be instructed to contact ACCC Security at 312-432-0074 (2-0074 from campus). If the user is a student they will have to contact security at 312-432-0074 (2-0074 from campus). |
| How to become compliant and regain ACCC services | ||
After the user has spoken to a security officer he/she will be instructed to do the following in order to become complaint and regain ACCC services: A) Remove all p2p software from the machine NOTE: Due to the legal nature of copyright infringement incidents, the identified user is responsible for servicing their own machine. For liability reasons the ACCC can not assist users with servicing their machines. |
| Repeat Offenses | ||
If we receive a subsequent notification for a user we will repeat the process above, in addition to the following: In the case of student repeat offenders, the ACCC will file a complaint with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. The outcome of the incident will be determined by a Student Judicial Affairs hearing. In the case of faculty/staff repeat offenders the ACCC will contact the Dean for the offender's department, the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and University (Legal) Counsel. * Please note that the user's account will remain suspended and machine will remain MAC filtered until an outcome is determined by the appropriate parties. |
