Forms-Subforms

In the Tables section of this site, we learned that tables can be linked to each other. In a form, you can display the records of two separate tables at the same time. Using the Subform/Subreport button on the Toolbox will let you create a table from another table inside the form on your existing table. For example, a Customers form can contain a list of the transactions for that customer from the Transactions table. In fact, if the one-to-many relationship between the tables was already established, creating an AutoForm on the Customers table AUTOMATICALLY CREATES a subform of the related table.

If you wish to create it yourself, you can use the Subform/Subreport button in the Toolbox to create the subform. Click on the thumbnail image to see the full size images in the Subform Wizard.

Step 1 of the Wizard lets you decide whether to use values from an existing table or work from another subform
In step 2, you choose the table (or query) from which you choose the fields you like. Remember, the table or query chosen must be the related table in a relationship with the main form.
Step 3 should show the relationship between the main part of the form and the subform. Select that, or create the link yourself.
Step 4 lets you give the subform a name.

Here is the finished product.
