Bookmarks
With,
literally, millions of available Web pages, it is easy to
see why you should mark your favorite pages or ones that you
need to revisit. Bookmarks serve that purpose. The Location
Toolbar contains your list of bookmarks.

By clicking
on the Bookmarks button, you see an entire list of bookmarks
that have been saved. Another possibility is to have an entire
toolbar dedicated to bookmarks, such as the one shown below.
Netscape calls this your Personal Toolbar.

The advantage
here is that you can drag a location down to the Bookmark
Toolbar and have that site permanently available. As an example,
we will drag the site shown above (the ITL home site) onto
the Bookmark Toolbar. To do this, simply click-and-drag the
icon to the left of the word "Location" down to
a spot on the Bookmark toolbar. <Click
here> to see a video of this. (85K)
Another
way of quickly making a bookmark to the current page is by
right-clicking anywhere in the background of the current page
and choosing Add Bookmark from the popup-menu.
Or click
on the Bookmarks folder (on the location bar) and choose Add
Bookmark.
Organizing
Bookmarks
Over time,
you will collect too many interesting URLs to keep them all
on the personal toolbar or in the main bookmarks folder. Netscape
allows you to organize bookmarks into folders, just like files
are put into folders to keep them neatly organized. You can
also rename bookmarks, as the default names are often not
descriptive enough.
All this
is done by clicking the bookmarks folder and choosing Edit
Bookmarks.

A window
opens showing a tree of bookmarks similar to Windows Explorer's
filetree.

You can
rename a bookmark by clicking on its name, then typing
a new name and hitting Return. To see where the bookmark
points, right-click it and choose Bookmark Properties.
From the File menu, you can add separators and new
folders (name them right away).
If you
put a bookmark into the Personal Toolbar Folder, it
will show up on your personal toolbar for quick access. You
can also make folders there. Netscape comes prepared with
some folders here; note how their icon is different than those
of plain bookmarks. If you wish to add a folder to your Personal
Toolbar folder, right-click on it and choose Add Folder from
the shortcut menu. Netscape will then ask for a name for the
new folder. <Click
here> to see a video demonstration of this. (498K)
