Surfing the Web


 

The Netscape Screen

(Click on any of the regions at the top of the screen for more information.)


This is the area where the Web page would be displayed.

MENU BAR - contains drop-down menus for use in configuring the browser and going to different areas.

  • File Menu Use the file menu to open new windows, print, access Netscape Composer to edit the existing page, and save pages
  • Edit Menu Use the Edit Menu to set preferences and search for items using <Netscape's Search Engine>
  • View Menu Use the View Menu to reload the current page, show or hide toolbars, or check the HTML codes for the page.
  • Go Menu Use the Go Menu to move back and forth between pages or access pages recently visited in the History list.
  • Communicator Menu The Communicator Menu lets you go to other parts of the Netscape program, find Net News and an address book. It also gives you access to your bookmarks.
  • Help Menu - gives you help on how to use Netscape and allows you to access support pages at the Netscape site

NAVIGATION BAR - allows you to move back and forth through Web pages and features other tools

  • Back -- return to previous web page
  • Forward -- go to next web page
  • Reload -- load most recent version of document
  • Home -- return to designated home page (set this in Edit->Preferences)
  • Search -- go to Netscape's search site
  • My Netscape -- go to your personal start page
  • Print -- print current document
  • Security -- tells you whether or not a page is secured
  • Stop -- interrupts the current transfer

LOCATION BAR - The location bar allows you to type in the URL of a Website and go to that site. You can also use the green Bookmark icon to the left of the location address to mark the URL to be referenced later.


BOOKMARK LOCATIONS - By pulling the Bookmark icon down to this bar, you can save the location(s) of the sites you visit the most.
