Formatting
Text
Formatting
text in Dreamweaver is similar to formatting text
in a Word or WordPerfect application. A good way
to get started is by copying some text you have
from an existing document into your Dreamweaver
file.
Open a
Word or WordPerfect file- or any text editor, highlight the
text you want to copy and choose Edit> Copy. In your new
Dreamweaver file, choose Edit> Paste.
Dreamweaver
also allows you to past text from a pre-formatted document.
Instead of choosing Edit> Paste, choose Edit> Paste
as Text. Pasting text this way keeps all formatting except
for styling formatting like font and bold attributes.
Now that
you have some text in your Dreamweaver document, you can work
on basic formatting. Dreamweaver works like a word processor,
allowing you to see the choices you made in the Property Inspector.

Text
that is highlighted will be changed as you change
attributes in the Property Inspector. Moving across
the Property Inspector box, we see the
Format: Paragraph drop down menu.
This menu gives options to select pre-formatted
Heading Sizes.
The
next drop down menu is the Font
menu. There will be a number of preselected fonts
you can choose from, there is also the option
to edit the font list. Dreamweaver gives you the
option to create a list of font that can be shown
on your site by giving you the option to create
a list of possible fonts for a particular set
of text. Viewers of your site may not have the
same set of fonts you have & this enables
you to start your list with the intended font
for your site, then name other fonts that your
viewer can default to if they don't have your
#1 font choice.
There
are a few more choices on the Property Inspector, the next
drop down menu deals with font size.
Note that fonts are not given the usual sizes that we might
recognize in a text editor. Instead fonts are numbered 1-7.
1 being the smallest, and 7 the largest.
The
next drop down menu is the font color.
With an eyedropper, you choose the color of your font. In
the box just next to the color drop down menu, is a six digit
number. This is the exact WEB SAFE color that your text is.
The
remaining selections are again common to most word editors,
BOLD, ITALIC, right, center or left pagination. A bulleted
list can start in a number of ways as we will touch on later,
but an easy way to start a bulleted list is by typing the
first item in the list, and selecting the bulleted or numbered
icon on the property inspector. After each item on the list,
hit the ENTER key for another bullet or number. Hitting the
ENTER key twice ends the list.

You
then give the anchor a name, preferably all lowercase
letters and no spaces. Here is what the anchor will look
like in your page. |
