Macromedia Dreamweaver 3

Image Map

In the previous section, we learned that we can click on an image and make a hyperlink out of it. This can also be done with a portion of an image, using the Image Map feature.

When you click on an image, the Property Inspector will have an Image Map section in the lower-left corner. (You must have the Inspector expanded to full to see it, using the triangle in the lower-right corner.) You can then use one of the three Image Map Tools, rectangular, oval, or polygon, to click-and-drag an area over any part of the graphic. (also called Hotspot tools) This area can then be made into a hyperlink. Click the image below to see a video demonstration. (4.2 MB)

When a user moves their pointer over the image map area, it will turn into a pointing hand in the same way it would for any other hyperlinked text or image.
