Specicfying Preview Browsers

As you develop your Web pages, you will want to view your efforts in a browser. In fact, it is best to test your Web pages in several browsers, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator at minimum. In Preferences, you can specify which browsers you would like to use to preview your pages. To simplify the preview process, Dreamweaver has keyboard shortcuts for viewing your pages in different browsers. Two of the browsers can be set up with shortcut keys. These are called the primary and secondary browsers.

Preview in Browser section of Preferences. Use the + or - buttons to add or remove a browser

To select Preview Browsers:

1) Choose Edit|Preferences and select Preview in Browser from the category list on the left -OR-
Choose File|Preview in Browser|Edit Browser List

The preferences dialog box opens, as shown here, clicking a browser name in the window on the right shows you whether it's the primary or secondary browser, or neither.

2) Click the plus {+} button to add a browser to the list. When the dialog box opens, find the browser application on your hard drive. (NOTE: finding the shortcut icon to the browser also works.) Select "Primary Browser" if you want to launch this browser by pressing [F12] when previewing your pages. Select "Secondary Browser" to preview your document by pressing [CTRL] + [F12]. You'll be using these shortcuts often, so memorize them quickly. Use the {-} button to remove a browser you do not need.

To change a browser choice, select the browser name in the list. Then click "Edit" and locate the different browser in your hard drive.

3) Click "OK" when you are done adding or changing browsers.
