Managing Your Email-Personalities

If you've ever gotten an email message from ACCC Seminars, you may have noticed that you reply back to the email address seminars@uic.edu. In theory, this email address must go to someone and someone must be able to write messages as seminars@uic.edu. To the former, you create a Distribution List, which is explained in the Address Book section. To the latter, you create Personalities to manage separate email accounts.

By clicking on the Personalities Tab, you get your list of Personalities. Right-click the Navigation Window and choose New... from the shortcut menu. This will take you to the New Account Wizard.

personality-1.gif (11420 bytes) The first step in the New Account Wizard is to determine if you want to create a new account, import from an existing account, or go to advanced setup.
personality-2.gif (11986 bytes) You give the personality a name.
personality-3.gif (11464 bytes) You then put in your  name, whatever  you want people to see in the "From" section of your email message.
personality-4.gif (11816 bytes) You then type in the name of the new email address.
personality-5.gif (11137 bytes) You enter the name you would use to log into this account.  This is your net ID.
personality-6.gif (12176 bytes) You should type in the name of the incoming email server, either tigger.cc.uic.edu or icarus.cc.uic.edu.  You also choose here between a POP account and an IMAP account.
personality-7.gif (12092 bytes) If you chose IMAP in Step 6, you must indicate your email location Prefix.   Type in "mail/"  (without the quotes, and don't forget the slash)   If you chose POP in Step 6, you would not see this step.
personality-7.gif (12092 bytes) You then type in the Outgoing email server.  This is "smtpservX.cc.uic.edu" where X is a number between 1 and 8.
personality-final.gif (10694 bytes) You have completed all the steps.
