AutoFilter

When you have a list of items, you can filter out records that meet a particular criteria. Click on a cell in the table and go to the Data|Filter|AutoFilter menu.

Note the drop-down arrows at the top. Clicking on any of them gives you several options, you can click on any of the sample data or use one of the specialized filtering tools listed. If a list is previously filtered, you can click on the (All) option to bring back the records. For example, we'll click the arrow to the right of Region and choose West out of the list.

Notice that several rows are missing and the ones that are there are shaded blue. The arrow for the Region column is also shaded. This list is filtered to only show records from the West region. <Click here> for a video demo of choosing different list options. (902K)

Top 10 List

Perhaps inspired by the nightly skit from David Letterman, you can filter the list to show the top ten items that you wish to display. Choosing the Top 10 option. The Top 10 AutoFilter is flexible. You can choose any number of items (not just 10), filter by number or by percentage, and take them off the top of the list or the bottom.

It should be noted that this works with data only and not text.
