Getting Started in Excel 2000

The Excel 2000 Screen

The Excel 2000 screen is set up with many of the features you would find in other business applications.

  • Title Bar: contains the name of the word processor
  • Menu Bar: a list of pull-down menus for doing most functions in a word processor
  • Toolbar: a set of buttons to carry out common commands, such as opening a file, printing, cut, copy, paste, etc. Pointing to a button will give the name of the button
  • Name Box: lists the address of the active cell
  • Formula Bar: used for entering and editing cells. If a particular cell contains a formula or function, it will be displayed in the formula bar, the result in the cell
  • Row & Column Headings: gray boxes at the top of each column or the left of each row to indicate the row or column number
  • Active Cell: similar to a cursor, the active cell is a border around the cell where data will be entered
