Saving
Presentations as HTML
Options
for Publishing on the Web

As previously
shown, you can save your PowerPoint 2000 files as Web pages.
The Web Options... button in the top section gives more flexibility
in how the presentation is designed.

Adding
Slide Navigation controls will create an outline as part of
the online presentation, allowing you to click on hyperlinked
text to go to different slides. (You can also choose the colors
for this presentation.) You can also turn on and off slide
transition animations. Best of all, you no longer have to
guess what screen resolution your audience is using. The "Resize
Graphics to Fit Browser Window" option takes care of that
for you.

If you
have a lot of graphics or outside files included with the
presentation, creating a folder to hold these support files
will make transferring any files easier. The name of the folder
will be the same as the name of the original presentation.
You can turn off the option of long file names if your Web
server does not support them. You can also have PowerPoint
update the links when you save the file. It is also recommended
you check the last box, as this enables you to open the HTML
presentation back into PowerPoint.

If you
have an audience that might use older browsers, you may wish
to leave the top two options off. VML (Vector Markup Language)
is a VERY new method for describing graphics in text format.
Also very new technology is PNG, (Portable Network Graphics)
which allow smaller-sized graphics with more colors. These
only work with the latest browsers. (IE 5.0 or later) The
Target Monitor option is not necessary if you turned on the
"Resize Graphics to Fit Browser Window" option above.

The encoding
section works for modifying the presentation for browsers
using other languages.
