Transferring Files Using Macromedia Dreamweaver

As stated in the Software section, the different Web authoring programs have the capability to transfer your Web pages from your local drive to the Web server. To complete this process in Macromedia Dreamweaver, you should open the Site Files Window by selecting it in the Window menu or hitting [F5] on your keyboard.

To get started, go to the Site|New Site menu.

Click the drop-down arrow next to the name of the current site to choose Define Sites You can also click the drop-down arrow next to the name of the current site and choose Define Sites.

The first screen you will see asks you to give the site a name and define the local directory.

Next, click on the Web Server Info category at the left. Choose FTP for server access. You must then put in the FTP host (tigger.cc.uic.edu or icarus.cc.uic.edu), the host directory (the pictures below represent the directories for a personal site, department site, and class site, respectively.) You also add your netid and password.

Once you have set up your site, you then tranfer files back and forth by simply dragging them. <Click here for a video demonstration of transferring files.(4.6 MB)>
