Download Your ADSM/Tivoli Storage Manager Client Here

This page contains copies of the ADSM/IBM Tivoli Storage manager client programs for you to download to your workstation, so you can connect to our IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server to back it up over the network.

Before proceeding, you must read and agree to the following UIC policies regarding our network backup service:

ADSM is offered only to individual UIC faculty and staff members for use on their own primary, exclusively used, personal computer or UNIX workstation located on the UIC campus.

ADSM is not available for use on public-access workstations including public lab personal computers.

ADSM is only available by special arrangement for any system that operates as a server. This includes LAN file servers; group, departmental, or class Web servers; or any workstations used by more than one person. The administrators for these servers are responsible for making their own arrangements for backup. If you are the administrator of such a server system and you would like to explore the use of ADSM to back up your server, send email to datasave@uic.edu

Each eligible person may register only one machine. You are warned that, due to technical limitations, if you attempt to back up more than one machine or one operating system with a single ADSM account, YOU MAY BE UNABLE TO RESTORE SOME OR ALL OF YOUR DATA WHEN THE NEED ARISES. This technical limitation considers multiple Operating Systems on a single machine (such as with "dual-boot") to be multiple machines. While the one-time change of switching to a new computer is OK, if we find that you are consistently backing up two machines to one account, we reserve the right to lock your account. This most often happens when you get a new computer and fail to remove ADSM from your old computer. If you have a valid need for two ADSM accounts, send your request to datasave@uic.edu

Files that you delete (whether accidentally or on purpose) will be kept for 60 days. Files that you change or update will be kept for seven generations of change or for 60 days, whichever occurs first. Files that you do not delete or change will remain restorable as long as they remain on your workstation. Be forewarned that large restores (such as an entire disk drive) may involve a substantial amount of time, possibly as long as a day or two.

Given the large volume of data that is transferred when using ADSM, it can not be used from off-campus or from any type of outside connection, including the ACCC dialin lines. It is not available for the Rockford or Peoria campuses. It may only be used with on-campus directly-wired Ethernet or UIC Wireless network connections. In particular it may not be used from any type of DSL or cable modem connection, even if that happens to be physically located on campus. Laptops may be backed up when they are physically carried onto campus and connected to the UIC network, either wired or wireless. The numeric IP address of a computer connecting to ADSM must begin with 128.248 or 131.193. (This need not be a hard address - DHCP is OK.)

ADSM for personal computers is for faculty and staff only. You must have a UIC netid, and an account and password which will allow you to authenticate with UIC's Bluestem. If you do not yet have a UIC netid or an ACCC account follow the links below:

All IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client software is licensed software, copyright IBM Corporation, and is subject to license agreements both between IBM and UIC, and between IBM and you. You will be given an opportunity to read and agree to the License Agreement between IBM and you at the time you install the Client Software.

Exceptions to this policy may be granted based on need. To request an exception, send email to datasave@uic.edu.
