Norton AntiVirus and Symantec AntiVirus for Apple Macintosh

Do You Need AntiVirus Software?

There is disagreement within the Mac community about whether Mac users need to run antivirus software. All agree that your chance of getting a Mac virus is low; there hasn't been one in years. But as I see it, there are three valid reasons to use an antivirus on a Mac:

  • To catch the next Mac virus when it does come.
  • To be a good netizen and catch Windows viruses so you don't infect your friends.
  • To protect yourself from viruses that infect Word macros and jpeg graphic files and the like; these do infect Macs.

Are they good enough reasons? I think so. Some other people don't.
