PasswordVault

What is PasswordVault?

PasswordVault is a simple program designed to ease the burden of remembering all of your University passwords, Mac, Windows, or Linux passwords, and Web passwords, by securely storing all your passwords on your desktop machine. No matter how many passwords you store, you only need to remember your master password to access all of them. PasswordVault offers 896-bit double-Blowfish encryption to prevent tampering, as well as a time out feature to protect your data if you leave your machine unattended.

PasswordVault also comes with a companion program, PasswordVault2Go, which stores your passwords on a portable media drive (like a USB flash drive) that you can carry from computer to computer. You can download PasswordVault and PasswordVault2Go from E-Sales at no cost.

There are versions of Password Vault for:

* Windows 98/NT/2000/ME/XP
* MacOS 8.6 to MacOS X 10.4
* Linux (x86) versions
* Portable media drives: Zip disks, iPods, and USB drives (also called USB memory sticks, JetFlash, USB flash drives, and flash memory)

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I forget my main password?

PasswordVault has a built-in Master Password Recovery System in which you set up very specific questions and answers for yourself in case you forget your password. However, if you don't remember the answers to your questions, there is no way to obtain your information.

Who should use PasswordVault?

PasswordVault is for anyone frustrated by having to remember numerous passwords and other secure data like PINs. You just need to remember your PasswordVault password, with the added benefit of being able to retrieve that password by answering your recovery questions.

The main caution in using PasswordVault is that there is no back door. If you forget your master password, and you can't remember the answers to the password recovery questions, you will not be able to retrieve your master password or your encrypted account information.

What do I need to do when I install PasswordVault?

After you download PasswordVault and/or PasswordVault2Go, you need to:

  1. Install PasswordVault on your computer or portable media drive.
  2. Set up PasswordVault, choose a master password and several password question and answer Clues in case you forget your master password.
  3. Add the systems and passwords you want it to remember.
  4. Synchronize PasswordVault if you plan to use it on your computer and a portable media drive.
