Can I get the codes automatically via email? What is the
SPSSLICENSE
list?
|
| |
Yes, you can get automatically via email renewal codes for SPSS
BADE CD for MSwindows which includes all the modules in that CD.
Faculty/staff WHO HAVE PURCHASED an SPSS
product from the ACCC
Software Group and WHOSE SIGNATURE IS ON THE LICENSE AGREEMENT will be
subscribed soon after the purchase to the SPSSLICENSE
email list. Upon
being added, a notification and and a welcome message is sent to you.
Via the SPSSLICENSE listserv you will receive information from the
STATS@uic.edu group regarding the SPSS product you purchased, renewal
information and renewal codes when available. This means that if
you
are in this list you will AUTOMATICALLY receive the SPSS BASE codes when
available to us. Also you will receive instructions on what to do to get
codes
for products other than SPSS BASE [AMOS, ANSWERTREE, DE, etc] or other
platforms of SPSS. If you
are not in this list at the time of renewal, you
need to read below for details on how to request your codes.
NOTE: Graduate students are NOT added to the
SPSSLICENSE list but to
another list called SPSSPACKLIC [See
Statistical Software for UIC
Students below].

NOTE TO GRADUATE STUDENTS...
Graduate Students who purchased our graduate bundle
please refer to the Statistical Software
for UIC Students page for information on how to renew. The
information on the page you are reading right now does not fully apply to
renewals for graduate student bundles. Additional documents are required.
|
- Send us your request. Please send an electronic note
to stats@uic.edu
to open your request. If you call the Client Services
Office, one of our consultants will fill a form for you. This form
includes all the information needed from you.
Alternatively, if you send
an electronic note, please include the following information:
- Your name and Department
- Phone number
- NETID and fax number
- Version of SPSS you need to renew (Windows, Mac, PowerMac)
- IF you require that the codes be faxed to you... your fax number.
Note that sending proof of purchase WITHOUT having an
open electronic request will result in your request for codes not be
processed. You need to send the electronic request FIRST or CONCURRENTLY
with providing proof of purchase.
- Provide proof of purchase of SPSS from the UIC ACCC.
PROOF OF PURCHASE
Because of restrictions on the licensing
agreement with SPSS, Inc. the license renewal codes cannot be publicly
available and verification of purchase needs to be assessed. The SPSS
License renewal information is ONLY available for qualified users. You are a qualified user
only if you have previously purchased this package from the
ACCC at UIC and you can provide written proof of purchase
of this software from the ACCC.
|
Upon receiving your electronic note we will check our records of qualified
UIC SPSS users [kept since 1997]. If you are listed, you will received the
renewal codes without further action other than to email STATS@UIC.EDU.
If you are *NOT* listed in our records of qualified UIC SPSS users, it
could
be for one of the following reasons:
- You have not submitted proof of purchase to STATS@uic.edu after you
purchased the software from our Software Division,
- You have previously submitted proof of purchase by bringing in your
disks in person to one of our offices for which we do not have a hardcopy
of your proof of purchase.
- You are not the person who ordered the software, or you are not contacting
us via an UIC account, for which you are not entitled to request the codes.
- Request was not through a VALID UIC ACCOUNT, BY THE FACULTY/STAFF PERSON
WHO PURCHASED THE SOFTWARE--that is, the FACULTY/STAFF whose signature
is on the SPSS AGGREEMENT.
Proof of purchase from the
ACCC's Software Division can be validated by providing
one of the following:
- Providing a copy of the receipt of SPSS purchase with the
name of the person requesting the codes.
OR
- Providing a copy of the Miscellaneous Requisition and/or Voucher used
to purchase SPSS with the name of the person requesting the
codes.
OR
- Providing proof of physically having the CD for the
appropriate software and having a current/valid affiliation with UIC as
faculty/staff.
If you do not have any of these
documents... and to verify that you own a site licensed copy of
SPSS, you can bring the original SPSS CD(s) to a Consultant at any of the
Client Services
Office laboratories [Main office in SEL 2267, and 181 GRC].
Make sure that there is an
open electronic
request to STATS@uic.edu *and* that the consultant appends to your
electronic request an internal form which states that you brought the
original media as proof of purchase because you did not have a receipt nor
a voucher. NOTE: If you use this method for
providing proof of purchase, the STATS@uic.edu group does not end with a
hardcopy of proof of ownership. This means that you have to do this again
next year.
|
As soon as it is conveniently possible, we will review your information and
send you the renewal codes via an electronic note or a fax, depending which
you gave as your preference. If there is any problem with your request, we will
send you a note or fax.
- You can fax us the proof of purchase at 312.413.7583 to the attention
of ACCC STATS Support Site Consultant.
- Requests need to be through a VALID UIC ACCOUNT, BY THE FACULTY/STAFF
WHO PURCHASED THE SOFTWARE--that is, the FACULTY/STAFF, whose signature
is on the SPSS AGGREEMENT.

How do I apply the renewal codes?
|
| |
General precautions before you apply the codes
These instructions assume that you have installed SPSS for MS-Windows
in
the c:\spsswin directory.
If your copy of SPSS for MS-Windows is installed in a different directory,
substitute your directory name in the following instructions.
When prompted for a license number, enter the new
code numbers provided in the fax or electronic note from STATS@UIC.EDU.
Please note that the SERIAL number is not the same as the
LICENSE number.
A serial number is a 7 digit number associated with the particular CD. The
license code number looks like this:
10023 40555 59522 42180 65477 65750 0000
Be careful to include the spaces between sets of
numbers. Not including the spaces will result in failure to update
your codes.
Please note that SPSS renewal codes for MS-Windows versions
or certain products in particular will not
work with other versions/products. For example, the codes for
version 10.0 will not work with 10.1.
Furthermore, if you try to apply codes for one version, say V10.0, and you
have "patched" your installation to another version, say 10.05, the SETUP
method will NOT work. SETUP will detect a newer version in your hard drive
and give an error like "SETUP has detected a later verion of
the product in this directory and cannot install here. Please
choose a different directory and try again".
For troubleshooting suggestions, please refer to the ACCC
STATS troubleshooting tips page.
MS-Windows
To renew the site license, you can run setup.exe or run the
executable licrenew.exe or the executable spssinst.exe.
The preferred method is running licrenew.exe.
Running LICRENEW:
The licrenew.exe executable is a DOS- based program which will prompt
you only for the renewal codes.
This program is found at the
main SPSS 'root' folder [e.g., SPSSWIN, If you installed it in
c:\SPSSWIN.]. Double click on the icon for this executable, and a DOS
windows will appear asking you for the new codes. Enter the codes, spaces
included, and hit enter. It will ask if you have any other codes to enter
[this is because each product inside of the installation media could
potentially have a separate code. We only need one code because we have
all modules from the base CD licensed and the license code reflects this
fact.]
The HELP
| ABOUT screen should reflect the new expiration date upon completing the
update via the licrenew.exe program.
In versions of SPSS prior to V10,
this method would not update the HELP | ABOUT screen.
[The content of what you see in the "Help...About SPSS" screen was
determined by the content of a file called spsssite.txt].
Running SETUP: Run setup.exe from the installation media and go through the
installation steps again, entering the code when prompted.
There's really no particular reason to run setup.exe rather than
the much faster licrenew.exe.
To update your codes using this method, double click on the SETUP
icon in the SPSS program group,
or from the installation media, run the file SETUP.EXE. This will take you
through the installation steps. It won't actually reinstall files, since
it will check for installed files, so the process goes much faster than an
installation. At the end you will be prompted for the codes. Your HELP |
ABOUT screen should reflect the new expiration date upon completing this
process.
NOTE: If you have patched your installation of SPSS to
a version newer than the one on the media, this method wil NOT
work. SETUP will detect a newer version in your hard drive
and give an error like "SETUP has detected a later verion of the
product in this directory and cannot install here. Please choose a
different directory and try again". For example, the media was for
version 10.0, and you patched it to version 10.05. SETUP will notice this,
and abort the process. You do need to use the LICRENEW.EXE to update your
codes.
Running SPSSINST:
I think this method is no longer valid for versions later than 10.0
but I include it just in case you find the executable.
In the Windows Program Manager File/Run Box, enter:
c:\spsswin\spssinst.exe
Enter the new codes when prompted.
