Getting and Installing UICalendar
|
| |
Question 1.1 How can I get UICalendar? How do I install it?
Question 1.2 I'm using Windows and I have Outlook. Should I use the Windows Client or Outlook Connector?
- If you are using Windows Vista, as I write this, Outlook Connector is the only
way to use Oracle Calendar. There isn't yet a native client that is compatible with Vista.
- However, you cannot use Outlook 2007 -- the Outlook Connector is not compatible with Outlook 2007 yet.
- Keep checking the download page, however. The Vista native client and
an Outlook connector that supports Outlook 2007 will come out sometime.
- The native clients are, in general, easier to use, but the native client and the Outlook connector do have pretty much the same functions.
- If you have been using Outlook, you should at least install the Outlook Connector
to import your Outlook calendar into Oracle Calendar. The install instructions explain how.
- All types of UICal Oracle Calendar clients are compatible with each other (with a few
minor reservations); you don't really have to choose just one. If you'd rather use both or all,
go ahead. Just don't edit the same item with two different clients at the same time. One or
the other set of edits will be lost.
Question 1.3
I like step-by-step tutorials. Are there any?
- Oracle has
End User Tutorials for Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g (our edition).
- We only have Oracle Calendar, so click on the + beside Oracle Calendar
to see the list of tutorials for it.
- You might be able to follow the download information, but I wouldn't. We don't always have
the most up-to-date Oracle Calendar server, so you might not always want the most up-to-date
Oracle Calendar client. Use
the ACCC download page, instead.
Question 1.4
Can I use UICalendar on the Web?
- Yes, there are two ways to access UICalendar on the Web.
- You can type in uical.uic.edu, or
- You can go to the http://www.accc.uic.edu and select -> Email -> UICalendar ->
Web Client.
- In either case, you will have to enter your UIC netid and ACCC common password to login to UICalendar.

Departmental, Event, Room, and Resource Calendars
|
| |
Question 2.1
Who can create a dept/event, room, or resource calendar?
Question 2.2
How do I change the title or name of a resource?
- The owner of a Departmental/Event, Room, or Resource Calendar resource can change its the title or name using the UICalendar Create-A-Cal page. He or she does not have to be a REACH member to do this.
- There is a link to the UICalendar Create-A-Cal page on the
Reach TWiki Tools and Useful Links page..
Question 2.3
How can I reserve a room or a resource?
- To reserve a room or a resource, invite the room or resource to a meeting. Someone with Designate rights to that
room or resource calendar can then view the calendar as Designate and Confirm the attendance of that Room or
Resource (if so desired).
Question 2.4
How can I change the ownership of a non-personal calendar?
- The current owner has the privilege to change ownership to new person using the UICalendar Create-A-Cal page. He or she does not have to be a REACH member to do this.

- The Owner of the group can add or remove members from the Group.
Question 3.2
The owner of our group eft. How can someone else have ownership of the group?

Access Rights and Access Levels
|
| |
Question 4.1
I can't see the details or titles of meetings on someone's Calendar! or, Everyone can see
too many details of the meetings on my Calendar!
- When any event, meeting, etc. is created on an Agenda, it's up to the owner of that meeting/event/whatever to set the
Access Level of that event. The possible access levels are:
- Personal
- Confidential
- Normal
- Public
- Anything set to Public is viewable to anyone who can see your Calendar at all.
- Whether information is available
about events with different Access levels depends on what viewing privileges you set for each particular user. You
can set Access rights for the general public, and then specify Access rights for specific individuals.
- The default value
is that Meetings set to Normal that you have agreed to attend will show up only as periods of time marked "Busy" on
your Calendar.
- To make a particular meeting more or less visible to a certain user, change the Access level of the meeting (event,
etc.). To make certain types of events more or less viewable, change the Access rights granted to the public or to a
specific user.
Question 4.2
Can I let people who don't have UICalendar accounts see my UICal agenda?
- Yes, you can allow anyone to see your Public items in your
calendar by publishing a Web Global Agenda.
- This is on the Web, but it is not terribly "public", because it is not listed by public search engines; you will have to give people the URL if you want them to use it. So it is as public as you want it to be.
