Appendix D: Windows Client Install and Setup

 
Note on Oracle Calendar for Windows Vista: New February 20, 2008: Version 10.1.2.4 supports Windows Vista. However: "This release does not support the following actions for the address book: publishing, retrieving, backup, and restoring. If you are upgrading from a previous version of the Oracle Calendar desktop client for Windows and prefer to keep these abilities, Oracle recommends that you do not upgrade to this release." Both Version 10.1.2 and Version 10.1.2.4 are available on the Downloads page.

Installing the Oracle Calendar Windows Client
 
  1. Download the Oracle Calendar Windows Client from the Downloads page.
  2. Double-click on the .exe file that you downloaded, which opens the Window installer.
  3. Click Next>.
  4. Select a destination folder if you wish and click Next>.
  5. Click Install to begin the installation.
  6. Click Finish when the installation is finished.
 
     
Setting Up for UICalendar
 
  1. Start Oracle Calendar: Start -> Oracle Calendar-> Oracle Calendar.
  2. The Connect to box will contain Off-line; we need to add UICalendar.
  3. Click the Other button, then click New....
  4. Type UICalendar in the click on Connection name box, and uicalendar.uic.edu in Server box and click Lookup.



  5. Information on UICalendar will be filled in; the Node will be 1000. Click OK.


  6. Then make UICalendar your default: select UICalendar from the connection list, click Make Default, then click OK.

  7. Then when you get back UICalendar will be displayed in the Connect to box. Continue logging in as below.
 
     
Logging In
 

After that, when you open Oracle Calendar to login, UICalendar will be selected by default, and all you have to do is enter your netid (though the netid you last logged in with will be displayed by default) and your password and click Sign-in.

 
     
-- Offline Agenda
 

If you are upgrading UICalendar from a previous version, at this point dialog box will open, saying that you offline agenda was created with an earlier version of Oracle Calendar and that it's being converted. Click OK to continue.

Then UICalendar will ask whether you want to have an Offline Agenda. You need to have one to access your Address Book when you're not logged on. Click Yes to create one, No not to. The Offline Agenda can take a while to download. (Minutes.)
