  1. INSTALLATION AND TERMINATION DETAILS


    1. All requirements and procedures must be reviewed with UIC Telecommunications Engineering & Design.


    2. All installers must be certified by the UIC Telecommunications Engineering & Design.


    3. All work and material will comply with all UIC Building Standards, federal and state laws, municipal ordinances, codes, regulations, and direction of inspectors appointed by proper authorities having jurisdiction.


    4. If there are any violations of codes, the contractor / vendor will correct the deficiency at no cost to the University.


    5. Working conditions must meet the industry standards for safety and work procedures, and protection of property established by prevailing rules, regulations, codes, and ordinances.


    6. Workmanship and neat appearance shall be as important as the mechanical and electrical efficiency of the system.


    7. All cables and wires shall be placed in a proper raceway and be self supported. Cable and equipment must be firmly anchored.


    8. Fasteners and supports shall be adequate to support loads with ample safety factors.


    9. Information outlets shall be securely installed at a uniform height on all walls.


    10. Outages shall be scheduled with the UIC Telecommunications Engineering & Design and at the customer's convenience.


    11. Cable shall not be formed into a condition that causes the outside sheath to wrinkle or exceed the recommended bend radius of the cable.


    12. All work areas shall be cleared of all litter, and the litter properly disposed of by the contractor on a daily basis.


    13. Any unusual water seepage in manholes, IDF or FDF's should be reported promptly to UIC Telecommunications Engineering & Design.


    14. All cables, terminating blocks, and terminals will be marked to conform to the existing UIC Telecommunications numbering system.


    15. Only Northern Telecom BIX CROSS-CONNECTION terminating blocks shall be used in the NODE, IDF, and FDF's for the termination of cables.


    16. ORTRONICS ORMMAC patch panels shall be used for terminating fiber optic cables with 3M Hot Melt ST connectors for multimode and single-mode fibers, unless otherwise specified by UIC ACCC TED.


    17. Labels for the NODE, IDF, and FDF cable identification should be in accordance with the ANSI/TIA/EIA 606 Standard.


    18. All designation strips shall be typed or marked with a label from a UIC ACCC TED approved printer and should be in accordance with the ANSI/TIA/EIA 606 Standard.


    19. All fiber optic cable enclosures shall be equipped with all materials required for a complete installation.


    20. A Northern Telecom QTBIX16A connecting tool shall be used for all BIX terminations.


    21. On patch panels and jacks using 110 blocks the proper 110 tool must be used.


    22. All copper patch panels and jacks shall use BIX or 110 terminations.


    23. All penetrations in walls, floors, and ceilings must be sealed with City of Chicago approved fire stopping material, installed in accordance to manufacturer=s tested specifications.
