Cellular Phones

Cellular telephones are self-contained telephones that can be used in an automobile or in any situation where a portable telephone is needed.

Calls can be made to or received from any telephone number, as long as the unit is in an area served by a cellular transmission tower. Most areas within Illinois have access to cellular telephone service. Cellular phones can also be used in other states (utilizing "roaming" features).

The monthly basic service charge is $11.50 plus $0.22 per minute air time plus long distance and roam charges.

Airtime charges apply to calls placed from the cellular phone and received by the cellular phone. Roam charges apply when using a cellular phone outside of its designated "home area". There is a one time activation fee of $15.00 and an optional voice mail charge of $5.00.

For more information, please contact the "UIC" Voice Mail Help Desk at ext. 3-2720. Check with ACCC before purchasing a cellular phone or signing up with an outside cellular service provider.
