Charges For Operator Assisted Calls And Directory Assistance Calls

When the SBC Operator is used to assist in placing a call (by dialing '9-0') you will be charged a surcharge of $1.05 plus the cost of the call.  Examples of Operator Service calls would be a collect call, a call charged to a 3rd party number or a person-to-person call.

If you require local or long distance Directory Assistance, you should dial '9-411' to obtain this service from the SBC operator.  The University has arranged for a special rate of $0.60 for each call to Directory Assistance.  You can request information for two numbers each time you dial 411, and you should advise the operator that you want information for two numbers when your call is first answered.

If you use any other long distance carrier to obtain directory assistance information, the charges will be considerably higher than using the SBC operator.

If you need international directory assistance, you may obtain it in two ways:

  • Dial 412-555-1515 and the AT&T international operator will assist you. The fee for this service is $7.95 plus taxes.
  • Dial 9 0, ask for the AT&T operator, when prompts comes enter 2 and then enter 2 again. The fee for this service is $1.25 for the operator assisted call and $7.95 plus taxes for the directory assistance portion.

A better alternative to using the Directory Assistance Service, for a fee, is to use an Internet web site at no cost. This is not the Campus Phone Directory.
