Jul 31 2001 - The Notes server and the applications that run on it, such as the AHEAD ticket tracking DB will be down for emergency maintenance today, tuesday July 31st from 5:30pm until 6:30pm. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Jul 31 2001 - Server Services will be unavailable Tuesday July 31st, from 9pm to Midnight. The server room is undergoing floor repair and the servers need to be moved for the second phase of construction. - Mark Goedert

Jul 30 2001 - There is a hardware problem with the ATM link leaving campus. We do not yet know the exact cause or when our external link will be fully operational. We should know more shortly.

Jul 30 2001 - Our inability to connect to the internet was caused by massive denial of service attacks from numerous hosts on the internet, things are under control now and you should be able to connect to off campus sites once again, connections to some of our peers are still down but they should be reachable via less optimal routes. Jul 22 2001 - Icarus will be down on Sunday July 22 from 10pm until 5am for system upgrades.

Jul 22 2001 - In preparation for the coming academic year, Sun came in Sunday, July 22, 2001, and installed a new CPU and more memory on icarus. We also installed all applicable operating systems patches so it should be all ready to go.

Jul 22 2001 - The operating system on tigger was upgraded from AIX version 4.2.1 to AIX 4.3.3 on Sunday morning, 7/22/2001. This upgrade includes 64-bit support which is required for new hardware scheduled to arrive later in the summer.

There have been few problems reported so far on Sunday, but some we know about are:

• printing to UPRINT printers does not work. We hope to have that fixed Monday.
• The FAX-to-EMAIL facility is broken. We are looking into it, but it may be down for a day or more.
• Some programs compiled with the GNU "gcc" compiler may crash. If you see a message like "Segmentation fault(coredump)" when you run a program, please send a message to systems@uic.edu with details and we'll look into it.

Jul 20 2001 - To prepare for room maintenance Lab and Server Services servers will be unavailable from 9pm to Midnight on Friday July 20th. Students will not be able to login, users will not be able to access their home space or network applications. - Mark

Jul 20 2001 - Network applications and home spaces will be unavailable Friday July, 20 2001, from 9pm - Midnight. This affects the ACCC Labs and Server Services. The servers need to be moved to prepare for room upgrades.

Jul 19 2001 - Tigger will be unavailable starting this Saturday night, July 21, starting at 4pm and ending no earlier than Sunday morning 2am. We will be attempting to upgrade to AIX version 4.3 in preparation for new hardware that will be arriving this summer.

The www.uic.edu Web pages will still work, generally, during the upgrade, but the following services will not be available:

1. Email boxes based on tigger (whether from pine, Eudora or WebMail)
2. Most Web pages that involve form submission (CGI)
3. The www.uic.edu search engine capabilities
4. FTP access for updating any www.uic.edu Web pages
5. Personal Web pages stored on tigger

Jul 14 2001 - On Thursday night, Borg experienced a catastrophic memory problem and was unavailable until late Friday night. Borg is now available. However, at 10:00 AM on Saturday July 14, borg will be rebooted to complete the recovery procedure.

Jul 13 2001 - The ACCC's compute server, borg.cc.uic.edu, has been down since late last night. This is a problem rather than a scheduled downtime; we don't at this time know how long it will take to fix.

Jul 07 2001 - Digialarm reported power outage in east campus on Saturday, 07/07/01 at 7:00pm. Around the same time we noted all the SEL lab servers down. We have paged SPOK and Night-squad . We have no further info as of now. Chirdip/Shashank Network Operations ACCC
