Jan 22 2002 - Tigger had various problems over the weekend. At one point at about Monday noon, there were three separate problems underway, making diagnosis very confusing. Tigger indeed had an IMAP problem, which affected only (some) people coming in from outside ISPs. There were also problems with some ISPs due to a cable cut caused by a fire in Elgin. There was also a separate routing problem on the Net.

We rebooted tigger on Monday afternoon, which should have resolved tigger's part of these problems. Ameritech thinks the cable in Elgin will be fixed by Thursday.

Jan 10 2002 - We're experiencing some I/O bus errors on tigger that could eventually cause trouble. We will bring the machine down at noon as a precautionary measure to reset the bus and peripherals and check a few file systems.

Those with email accounts and web pages served by tigger will be affected. The main campus pages (www.uic.edu) will *not* be affected.

We hope to be up again by 1pm and we regret any inconveniences caused by this outage.
