ADSM down Tuesday afternoon

Feb 26 2002 - The ACCC's ADSM backup service will be down all afternoon this afternoon for a software upgrade. All files that you might want to restore from ADSM will be restorable after the upgrade.

We regret the short notice, but we were awaiting some last-minute patches to the upgrade.

Email access to AHEAD and Mailserv down 7 PM to Midnight Saturday, Feb. 9

Feb 08 2002 - From: "ACCC Operating System Support and Database Group"
Subject: Down-time for mailserv.uic.edu Saturday 7 PM to Midnight

The ACCC mailserv email server (mailserv.uic.edu) will be down for maintenance starting tomorrow night (Saturday 2/9) at 7 PM and continuing no later than 12 Midnight.

We are adding and reconfiguring storage capacity to accommodate the growing usage of the server.

Email to the ACCC AHEAD problem system is routed through mailserv now, so email access to AHEAD will be unavailable during that period. (Web access will still be available.)

We regret any inconveniences caused by this outage.

Change to software on MAILSERV.UIC.EDU email server

Feb 06 2002 - From: ACCC Operating System Support and Database Group, systems@uic.edu
Subject: Software change on MAILSERV.UIC.EDU this afternoon

This advanced warning is being sent to all people who have their email delivered to mailserv.uic.edu. This afternoon, Wednesday, February 6, at 2 PM, we will put into production a new version of POP/IMAP proxy software that is used on mailserv.

This software will provide a couple of benefits:

  1. It fixes a problem that prevented OUTLOOK users from accessing their mail via the IMAP protocol.
  2. It enhances security by providing for encrypted POP and IMAP passwords and sessions. More details on this feature will be sent next week.

In theory, you should not notice the change. (There's an exception for FTP users: See the note below.) The software has been tested at ACCC for several weeks, however we know well that some software problems often do not become evident until large numbers of users stress the system.

So, if you encounter difficulties downloading email after 2 PM on Wednesday, please send a detailed explanation of the problem to systems@uic.edu. If you can not send mail for some reason, please call the Network Operations Help Desk at 413-8080 extension 2 and supply details of your problem.

NOTE: MAILSERV FTP Users!

In order to accommodate the new software, it is no longer possible to open an FTP session directly to mailserv.uic.edu. Instead, please open your session to email0.cc.uic.edu. You will still be able to access your folders as before. If you do attempt toopen a session to mailserv, you will be instructed to redirect your session to email0.cc.uic.edu.

The ACCC is working on a new Web page that will let you download and/or delete mailboxes on mailserv without using FTP directly. Details will be available later this month.

Thank you for your cooperation.
